EL on bricks! (Updated with 2 more pics)
I just went to visit a friend of mine in Brampton (near Bovaird/410), and right across the street from their house was a shiny new EL.... 2001/2002 model.......
ON BRICKS!
Bunch of punks put the brand new EL on bricks and stole the stock rims and rubber! I could not believe it.... Holy cow, what is this friggen city coming to .... It was a street that's very deep in too, have to go thru alot of small streets to get there...
I was told the car was purchased only like.... 3 months ago. Sad. The whole day the car sat there on bricks as I suppose the owner had no idea what to do....
I took some pics, but will have to wait until they are transferred from the digicam (not mine...) So sad....
So if you see someone sportin' new EL rims or trying to sell some, those could be stolen...
My friend was telling me as they walked out at 7am in the morning they saw their neighbour just stand there, first thing in the morning, basically crying when he saw his new car on bricks.. They had an older beater that was in the garage, and the EL at the edge of their driveway.
OWN3D...... unfortunately.

Not sure about Civics, but ELs come with wheel locks, summer mats (front and rear), front mudguards, 3 yr road side assistance, and 8k and 16k oil changes FREE of charge, which means the thief/thieves had some way of removing the stock wheel locks
Now I know to park CLOSE to the curb if there is a curb on the street! Not in this case though...(that way they can't pull out two of the 4 tires, and let's hope that'll deter them!

Wheel locks can be broken very easily with an impact gun/wrench, so if they had a cordless one (ie Snapon) than that wouldn't be a problem. Even some "gator" grip will fit into the grove. Whats wrong with wheel locks on OEM.

How about this, put 4 different wheel locks on each rim, and if I can break them, I take all 4, if I can't I pay $50?

****!!! that would **** me off so much if I came out and saw my car on bricks.
Especially if I only had stock rims to begin with. Those thieves have a lot of ***** to go up to someones house and jack stock rims. (Dont get me wrong the stock EL rims are nice but you would think a thief would steal something with a lot more value.)

Perhaps I got ripped off at the dealer but my 02 EL didn't come with wheel locks. I just picked up a set in anticipation of my new rims (3 week backorder!! Grrr....) but that sucks how some punks ripped the stockers off that EL in Brampton. The poor owner, knowing it'll be damn near impossible to find them again, and havin to buy new ones. Damn punk kids.

True true - claim insurance, pony up another few hundred $$ and get some 16's or 17's (WITH wheel locks). But how much are 1.7 stock rims and rubber worth? My deductible is like $1000 and I'm sure I'd end up just payin it all myself instead of claimin it. Still though, I just talked to a few 1.7 drivers, and they all got wheel locks with theirs but I didn't...DAMMIT ACURA!!!!
I keep seein tegs with 1.6EL rims around Mississauga, and my baby brother just bought MY stock 1.7 rims for his teg. It only looks weird if you know which models the rims originally came from, IMO.

it's a misconception we live with as civic drivers, but it's true to a large extent, there's a fledging blackmarket underneath it all, mostly involving civics.

Hey guys, no pics yet, but I'm sure you can imagine the visual image of an EL on bricks.... (problem is that I didn't have my digicam, and the digicam I took the pics with isn't mine, and they don't know too much about how to use it.....)
The SIR rims go for $500-600 with decent rubber, and someone in the Yahoo EL forums is selling his for $600 flat. So, not quite worth $1000, but still a big chunk of change.... Mind you, it looked like his front was touching the ground a bit, so his front brakes might be a bit warped, as well as a bit of minor damage underneath his engine bay, like bent headers...

A really good thief can get past wheel locks. If he has enough time he can get past several sets. But there aren't many good thieves out there, just a bunch of young opportunistic punks. So usually one set of locks will protect you just fine in most situations, as long as you park your car someplace safe every night. That said, I cleared headlights on a friend's ride last week and he had some real nice 18's on his ride. He had 4 sets of wheel locks on there. Better safe than sorry, as I imagine it would take forever to get past 4 sets of locks. Another buddy told me to forcibly unlock a wheel lock, all it takes is a proper-sized socket and a hammer...I'm not really willing to test this though.
