Bell Sympatico

OK I know this is a dumb question that everyone knows, but does bell sympatico uses our regular phone line for connection? If that is the case, how do they manage to have us access to the net and the phone at the same time? How does it work? A phone line can achieve such speed?

Sorry, I never read anything about sympatico and at my house in waterloo I use rogers so I just want to know, since I have the bell express Vu at home, my dad wants to get sympatico so I just want to know more about it.

And yes I am in computer science..haha....

they can't run cat5 cables all around town...!!
they have to use existing resources that do run around town to transmit their signals...
either that, or have some way to broadcast the signals like satellite (ie. internet via satellite)

Sympatico High Speed uses Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology to take advantage of the idle capacity of your existing phone line.

When you make a phone call, only 1% of the line capacity is used, leaving the remaining 99% available for access to the Internet. This unused capacity allows data transmission at speeds up to 30 times faster than conventional Dial Up service.1

And because this capacity is not used by voice communications, you can be connected to the Internet while you talk on the phone or receive a fax.

The phone signal and TV signal do not occupy all the bandwidth (wire if you want something physical) that come out from the outlet ... and the speed depends on the server stations locate in your area ...

that's why Sympatico doesn't support some area because those areas dont have the proper station ...

this is only a general picture that I remember from reading some articles ...
if you have a detailed one please let me know ..

Sunapollo, you are correct. The signal is carried on the same cable/phone line but there are different signals coming in. Depending on where you are, they may or may not have servers (stations) to host the internet connection.
