OT: To those who were in the CompuStar GB
Well this is for the group buy on the CompuStar alarm that went wrong
I've called around CompuStar > Auto Land > Links Electronics
I've asked about our situation and the warranty would be only on the installation
but if there was a problem with the unit, it would not be through the installer.
I did however find one place that would take care of it for us if there ever was a problem
so I assume it can be done (the installers I found were all authorized CompuStar installers)
But we would need to pay for shipping (Alaska and back?)
Anyways no real luck on this side to do it on an authorized place.
The only real difference I saw was the bypass module in which the price fluxuated a bit.
Heres the info I got - for central Toronto and Scarborough area (couldn't get a list so he only gave me 6 stores):
Chromer Radio (spelling?) - $50/hr about 4 hours installation
Crystal Audio - $50/hr no idea how long it takes
Sound Fx - $300 + $100 bypass + Honda key + they solder the wires
Canadian Auto - $200 + $50 bp (I need to call again to talk to the owner, he's the guy that does the CompuStar part)
Crystal Radio - $300 + $120 bp 6 hour installation
Chase - $380 (bp included) + $45 for power locks + Honda key
Ok, I was clueless on what was required as the first two places didn't seem to ask what kinda car I had (ie need bypass)
Maybe I should have said that first
Anyways, it seems like $250 - $400 range for authorized CompuStar installation.
I think if you're planning to do it at an unauthorized place, we'd need to make sure the bypass price
and if they solder the wires? Supposedly some thats why its a bit cheaper.
We also need to get an extra Honda key, Chase told me I could just use the valet key and chop the transponder off that instead. Otherwise $100 to Honda.
Seems like a lot to pay at the moment, so I guess I'll have to think about it!!
What should we do??

speedtech will do it for 240 with bypass. and this is b4 trying to talk down the price a bit
warrenty on installation only........... same for all the other places i ask. give and take on the price.
as for me, i got the 03 model.

for all the new car models. there is a chip in the key, in order to start the car.... it is highly recommended to get a bypass transponder for about 40bucks, give and take. that is the average price that most shops has given me.
and yes.. for the remote starter function.
there's another place in woodbridge. an artic start rep gave me the number to them. the price was 230, tax in, including bypass transponder.. and like all, they'll only warrenty the install. they were the ppl that installed the alarms/remote strater for ppl that got their alarms from wal.mart.
i was suppose to call them back but alot of ppl from that site wanted refunds and shiet.... so i didnt bother yet and this was over a week ago, approaching two.

Why's everyone going with Compustar? I never really understood that... No one really answered why except the usual "cuz it's got remote paging and the pager looks cool!" answers...
There was an old thread saying how it's pretty darned easy to bypass and jack your car..... (well, 'easy' is relative I suppose, to other alarms).
Is this GB still open? I'm looking to get an alarm, and was thinking of the AutoPage 750 model for $800 + tax installed at Kromer Radio.... Fully loaded, with remote start for auto. (I think it was NO bypass box though... So I suppose it'll cost another $50)

ask for Junior. just tell him that the chinese guy with the white civic coupe came in and referred you. not sure if it would make much of a differences but it may.
180 tax in, cash deal.
including keyless bypass module.
it took about 4 to 5 hours..... but technically, only like two and half hours b/c b4 that... he was working on a different car.
and i have a 2002 civic coupe. standard.
as for the quality of the work.... everything seems good. but when i glimpsed under the steering wheel..... to check out the wiring was..... it seemed a bit messy. but i'll just most likely organize it tm or whenever i have time.... like taping it and such and such
i didnt really wanna complain 'caues for 180. i just said fine.
but ya, as for now.... everything seems to be fine
i have the 2003 artic start.. alarm/remote starter.
the place i went to also sells compustar.... for 650.
so ya, i'd say its safe to say that you can bring it there to install it. but its mainly up you on where you trust your car.
there's a few coffee shops and convience stores around. so there's places to kill time. i also bought Sport Compact magazine to kill some time.. and watched a movie that they had on a small dvd screen. haha.
its mainly one red light north of Finch on Midland.
oh ya, and another thing... when the car is done with the installation, check everything..... like all your lights, signals.... and the doom light on the inside of your car. 'cause they do a lot of wiring so some things may happen.
