1st speeding Ticket

I have been driving for 5 years with no speeding tickets.
But on Sunday at 2:00am on the way back home from Myrtle Beach SC I got a huge ticket
The cop said I driving 82mph in a 55mph zone the ticket is for $155 USD which is like $280 Can
I was not driving me Civic I was driving the family Mini Van.
I don't think Iam going to pay the ticket.

Don't know how you can fight a US ticket. But I think they're State specific so if you don't live there I don't think they'll send you a bill.

Just don't get caught there again coz you might get jailed for not paying up, hahahaha...

I thought they made you pay on the spot... Anyways, I think if you don't pay, as long as you don't get caught again nothing will happen, but I'm not 100% sure.

Good that you made it back through the border alive! Maybe they'd shoot on sight if you don't pay a ticket before leaving, but they were too busy monitoring incoming terrorists from Canada they forgot the other direction. What state did you get the ticket in? Some states have reciprocal enforcement, meaning a ticket there equals a ticket here (in theory) however, I don't know how often this happens.

On a sidenote: Does anyone know what will happen if I don't pay for a parking ticket from Montreal?

Go to those MTO machines and I think you can check a record of your tickets....... I think. If it lists there you better pay it.

I think you'll be better off by just paying for it. Your insurance won't go up even if you pay for it(since you got it in U.S) so what's point of fighting for it? You'll probably end up spending more than $280 if you decided to fight for it in U.S. court.

I got the ticket in Pennsylvania. The cop did not even reduce it.
Also it answer your question about the parking ticket from Montreal they will send you a reminder in the mail
but just write a letter saying that the ticket was not on your car and hopefully they will forget about it.

I forget how it works.. but i think it has something to do with some states affiliate w/ Canada, and the charge gets put on your record.. and others don't.. So basically if Penn doesn't.. than you don't have to worry about it... just don't get caught in that state again..

But really.. look it up

I don't think you have to pay that, do you? My friend with a Lude got clocked in US doing 200km/h (about 120mph?) in a 40mph zone.. then he went on to get 2 more tickets during the same trip. He hasn't paid and it hasn't caught up with him yet.. and it was back in '98.

Reminds me of illegal parking at York U a couple of years back, you'd get a ticket but it only applies to York U students, so I never paid it. Haha...

Of coz, that was 4 years ago, so maybe now they get real MTO ticketing officers onsite, dunno...
