Can someone describe for a newbie what the CAI system does for me? Are they legal?
I imagine it increases HP (how much?) does it have any impact on gas mileage or noise?
Also have seen Short Ram Intakes advertised, is it a situation of one or the other, and whats the difference?

CAI flows more air into your engine... breaths better.
Cold air is better than hot keeps you engine cooler <---- (if I'm not right please correct me on this)
Nope not illegal... as far as I know. It will increase your hp.
Noise and milage... dunno.
Hope this helps a bit (not a whole lot but a bit)

Cold Air intakes are better for low/mid range gains. Colder air is better because the air is denser, and therefor burns better. It usually costs more, and you might have to worry about getting water in your engine.
Short Ram is better for high end range. Typically costs less and you don't have to worry about the water problem.
There's a lot of info on the forum between the 2 different kinds, just do a search and you'll find tons of info.

cold air is denser than hot air, carries oxygen better... helps improve response quicker (low/mid)than a short ram (high). it is quite noisy, and has a very slight impact on gas mileage. any open/exposed filter is illegal. and it is a case of one or the other. it increases hp and torque slightly, better if you don't look at the actual numbers though (they're all quite low for 7th gens).
