shifting in the reverse gear
I drive a stick shift civic coupe... don't know if you guys have experienced this... but sometimes I find it hard to shift into reverse cleanly when backing into a parking spot... sometimes I need to shift into reverse twice (ie, shift into reverse, go neutral again, and shift back into reverse to engage the gear cleanly)... anyone have this problem/issue? it might not be a big thing..... just wondering if anyone is having the same issue...
I have the same problem too.... sometimes when I shift to reverse, it doesn't feel like it connected properly so I have to do it again.... Can't be me because I have the clutch in all the way all the time. it just didn't feel right...
It's usually a little rougher to get into the reverse gear, I drove my VP's Jetta yesterday and the reverse is beside the first gear position and I could also feel a bit of roughness getting into it.
BTW, you should always be at a complete stop before putting the car into reverse gear because you are moving into a gear that turns in opposite direction of the rest. After prolonged shifting into reverse without bringing to the car to a full stop will wear down the reverse gear. You may notice if you don't there's a click or metallic sound coming from the tranny when you do that, it's the gears hitting each other in opposite motion.

are you guys shifting while the car is stationary? or while its still moving??
I know with our cars, we're not supposed to be able to shift into reverse while the cars moving, otherwise.........GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIII IIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD.....
and thats not good

That's what I meant, I never shift into R with the vehicle in motion. Stupid jockey at Honda did that right in front of me and I reported it to the manager...let's just say he got into a whole load'a crap for it.

yah make sure your stoped with our civics because these things are not forgiving
if your stopped and you cant' get into revers or it just dont feel safe just shif into any gear b4 going into reverse (i go to 1st) then
for sure it will go in.
hurts me when i hear the grinding noise and i sure have done it a few times ......hate it how you gotta stop on these ones
but there is nothing we can do so just do it.

I have experienced the same problem. Sometimes I notice that if I am on an uphill slope and stop my car and try to put it in reverse, it doesn't go. I found that if I let the car roll back slightly, then stop the car again and put it in reverse, it goes in smoothly.
I guess that's just one of those things you gotta deal with when you drive this car.
WHO CARES! IT'S STILL DA BOMB!!!!!!!!!
Yo
I have found the samething about shifting into reverse. Seems to be impossible to shift into reverse while rolling a bit. If u hold the clutch at your hot spot instead of all the way to the floor I found it shifted in reverse easier while moving. I still think that being stopped completely is still by far the best way to do this thou.....
