Best Gas / What gas do you fill up on?
Hey,
I recently purchased my civic ... April 2002 ... and my mechanic, parents have an accord, has always told me Shell gas was the finest. Taking his word, I've always used Shell gas for the civic ... thinking at least staying with the same gas has got to be good (87 Octane btw) ... now I have my doubts about shell ... what do you guys/gals use or what do you believe is the best?
Cheers,
Cosmicjim

Esso because I'm always on the go and I can use SpeedPass there.
then Shell because EasyPay is just a tad bit slower than SpeedPass
when I need a car wash, I go to Sunoco

I go to Pioneer, because its cheap But I think for the summer i'll be taking super and going to Sunoco.. After reading that crap about Shell, no more shell..
my friend use to work for Petro canada office....and he basically told me that gas is gas.......its all the same no matter where u go.....the only difference is they use a slightly different octane for every comapny.........but its all the same.........they all work the same way.....and burn the same way.....so none of these gas stations will do no harm to ur engine.....
I always fill up on Sunoco 87. In emergencies I'll use Shell or Petro-Canada.
Sunoco has the lowest sulphur content of any gasoline in Canada. Lower sulphur content means better for the environment and longevity of your catalytic convertor apparently. Next lowest sulphur content is Shell and Petro-Canada. Esso has highest level.
Also, Sunoco adds ethanol to their gas which reduces emissions and acts as a natural gas line anti-freeze.

Bluelle: All gases are very similar, in fact they will drive the exact same. How they're different is in the additives each company adds. For example, Petro-Canada adds a detergent to keep fuel injectors clean. I'm pretty sure other companies use something similar. Sunoco uses ethanol for gasline anti-freeze, whereas Petro-Canada's WinterGas uses another chemical to do the same thing. For one thing, Sunoco contains the least amount of sulphur.
Each of the large gas stations are part of an integrated petroleum company, Sunoco is Suncor, Esso is ExxonMobil, etc. They will refine their own oil. Smaller providers may buy gas at wholesale from the larger players. So buying Pioneer or Beaver or one of those small guys, you might be getting Esso or something.

Hey, I fu*king swear I saw you gotta use 89 or higher octane in the owners manuel.. . or am I wrong.. anybody got it? I left my manuel out in the rain and I can't read it anymore.
Anyway, I goto Esso... after a couple fill ups on Super, I get a carwash... and how much is that worth these days... $9.00?? Yeah.. it's worth it.
