I'm getting viberation from my car, ever since I put the new 17" rim plus tire combo. When I am on the highway, it viberates....
Naturally, I thought it was in need of balancing, so I took it back to where I bought it from (Superior Tire & Auto @ Keele & Larwrence). They rebalanced it, and it improved, but still not corrected. I went back again, 3rd time, to have it fixed, and it's still the same--only this time, the alignment is off.
Pretty frustrating, considering I have to drive an hour to get there, and an hour back to home, every time.
Even worse, their technicians are telling me that it's my "shocks"... saying they are too soft, and not made for these "low profile" tires (45 series). Of course, I know this is bull$hit, since shock has got nothing to do with steering wheel viberation. It viberates at 120km/h so badly, the steering wheel becomes a blurr.
I asked the technicians to take my car out for a spin onto the highway, and he didn't--he only took it on the street, to 100km/h. Streets are going to be rougher, obviously, so the viberation will not be noticeable. In fact, he thought I was complaining about the ride or something....
What should I do? I have no faith whatsoever in their technicians. I am thinking about calling them up, and tell them that I will be taking my car in for service at a local shop. And if they can fix the problem, I will forward the bill for the service and have them re-emburse me for it.
Good idea?

No... stock everything.. cept the for the rims & tires..
(215/45/17)
I know something is fishy for sure, because I was doing 180km/h on my stock 14" firestones, handsfree on QEW.. no viberation, and it was going straight.
As soon as I got new tires, all this crap happens...
I been in other stock Civics w/17's.... no viberation whatsoever...

You really think lowering is going to solve a wheel balance problem?
hahaha lowering will not solve the problem lol
here is the real scoop dude.
since upgraded the rims to 17 ur feeling the road more and more
cuz u dont have the 14s or 15's with the 65 profile on the tire to fall back on!
so in turn ur 45 profile is feeling the road more.
u may want to lower it. but it wont necesarily solve the problem. i have the same problem when i do 115 on my 50 profile i get that but when i had my winters 65 profile it was all good.
some things u have to give up. u maybe want to have them realigned and balanced again.
is there a speed limit that it starts to shake? mine is only at 115 and after 120 its not there any more!

i don't know if it's a wheel balancing thing you're experiencing...chack the rims, see if any of them are warped!!...sometimes people sell rims that aren't perfect!
yes that could help move ur front ones to the back and see if its that. or go to another rim place and have them check if the rim is warped
Yeah we did the front to back thing today..........
10 bux says they are warped. I bought the last set they had... it was a display model

I dont think they will re-emburse you if you take it to another shop.

Hey! Look At Me!! I'm a Supporting Member!! DUDE, i had the exact same problem when i bought these used rims - huge vibration - had it balanced and it reduced it alot but the one wheel needed to be trued - took it to a shop and they found it - cost $30 to have it checked and $90 to fix it - thats your problem - one of your wheels is warped a bit - or it may be more than one - your gonna have to fork out enough to have all of them checked just in case
o1coupe......thats where i bought my wheels from and i thought they were awesome cuz they weere nice and blahblah.....they said they balanced the tires, than they porbly did it again and again.....Guess what i did the same thing....after u get past like 70 km/h the steering wheel gives your hands a good massage right? i went back 3 times too and drove 1 hr and 30 min just to have them rebalance. i hae told manypeoplr to go there and everyone who does complains. i went there cuz of the stock they have and u buy them and go no hassle. Im telling you they didnt balance them right!! and they wont either. you got to go somewhere else and pay like the 40 to get it done right. i did, went to a place they did it in like 30 min and i drove away with no problems......if anyone reads this dont go to that place for wheels!!!
Hey, thanks for the info Oldskool..
I decided to call Superior Tire & Auto's headoffice. I told them exactly what happened, and the president of the company is going to call me tomorrow. I know I can get it done at another place for $40, but it's the prinicple of the business... they have to stand by their products/services.
Either that or I'm gonna egg that place.
