130km/h on the hwy

There is a good article in the Toronto Star about a study done that proves that it will be more safe if the goverment increases the speed on the 401
to 130km/h.
I fully agree
What do you think?

of course us teens agree, but it won't get changed, the cops love giving out speed tickets, they have been blitz so much lately, if they make 130 i bet they won't make as much

Before the oil crisis in the 1970s the speed limit is to be 70 mph which is roughly 120 kmh.

I don't know if 130km/h is a good idea, some cars feel dangerous at that speed. Plus it'll encourage those trailer truck drivers go insane.

Personally, I think they should come up with a law that makes the left lane for PASSING only. #1 reason for traffic jams and road rage is people holding up the passing lane, and people that are in hurry will accelerate hard and cut them off. Or hi-beam them, etc....

i think its a great idea....
I totally agree with the article and how the speed ranges are causing the accidents!

everyone will do atleast 120
I dont think many people will go over 140 anyways..... its a great idea!

reduces the gap

i dont think their gonna do it cuz
1) everyone is gonna go above 140!!!
2) if u go that fast there is no much air under u car when u go at that speed u can flip over
3) no one has slammed cars only people who supe it up.
go ahead get urself's killed just over a article to upgrade speed limit its ur lives
the left lane for passing is always there. i use it all the time always go 120 on it. so its no bigge.

The people who can't handle even speeds of 100 km/h should definitely be on the right lanes or shouldn't be using the highways at all. Same thing applies to cars that are dangerous at that speed. One thing I hate the most is when people don't speed up when merging from an on-ramp... they totally slow down everything. I swear I don't know how half of these people get their license.

But ya I'm down with 130, most people won't go over 140, I think I'd believe that, say on a 3-lane, left lane for passing, 2nd lane for travelling at 130-140, right lane for the slow peeps.

some parts of the 407 is like the autobahn

1) no they simply wont, some people will but the percentage speeders under that system will be much less than the percentage under this system, you got people doing 140 right now, they arent going faster, not out of fear of being caught, but because they simply dont feel safe going faster.
2) im shocked to hear someone thats been here as long as you say something like that. even if you raise your car by three inches it will take a lot more than that to flip our cars. and i mean a lot more like you need that speed into grade 5 tornado like winds You dont need to have a lowered car to travel that fast. I aint gonna flame, thats not my style, especially towards a fellow can east member, just saying think about what you said and if you still arent convinced do some research on it.
3)and thats the problem that leads to road rage, people get in the passing lane at 120 and stay there thinking that no one should be passing them at that speed, thats when you frustrate some behind you, who in retaliation pulls a pass on the right lane and then cuts you off dangerously. Here in north america we have TERRIBLE lane edicate, its SO BAD! If you've ever driven anywhere in Europe, you'll know what i mean. Passing on the right is one of the most dangerous things you can do and it causes more accidents than you think.

Some of our roadways cant handle speeds like that, like the 427 past the airport to the QEW, that will need serious paving if it can handle those speeds, but areas like the 400, the 407 and the 401 can handle that with ease!

130km/h? I don't agree. I don't usually hit high speeds above 120km/h, but I've driven on 401 heading towards Ottawa (and back), and up on 400 towards Rama, and anything above 120km/h on my 1.7EL is DEAFENING. The windnoise is terrible. So, I dunno how the hell you can all agree to speeds like that, driving a Civic.

Besides, the little 1.7EL engine doesn't have the torque to get your butt outta danger if you were to do a quick cut into the left lane(s), nor are the brakes sufficient for a quick lange change into a slower lane.

130km/h?

have u ever maxxed ur ride ??
it feels like crap
ever go 180 and hit a little bump on the highway?
well i have and it feels like my car is gonna spin out
so i dont think its really good idea. no i dont go 100 on the dot on the highway i do 120 -140 all the time but just something to think bout. im not sayin i stay on the passing lane all the time
besides i never use the highway unless its at night. huh...u think someone goona need the passing late at night?
hahaha jokes.
no matter how much we argue over it
there's no way this is gonna happen. its just a study made by a bunch of guys voicing out their thoughts

the only bad thing about 130 speed limit is that there will probably be people driving faster and in order to stay ahead, one will just have to drive faster.

ya noise is not very good... but depends on the wind too... sometimes it feels really unstable even at 110, but sometimes at 140 it's not so bad.

It really depends on how you drive your car. Once your up in the 4k rpm stage, your car should run. Although still 127hp, I find that passing isn't a problem. Down shift and shoot out. Our breaks (4 wheel disc) should be much better than the civic drums in the back. 114 pounds of torque isn't a lot, but, it's enough to make your car catch up to faster ones.

if they raise to 130.... then people gonna be driving 150 fo-sho.... I totally agree with Boo on that.
I probably will be one of them. It won't solve anything, it'll only make things faster and more dangerous. IMO
