defroster setting a/c
theres a stickied thread in the 8th gen forum regarding this topic but I need some canadian feedback
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...en-honda-civic
my 99 civic would go to a/c when I put the defrost setting on but I'd be able to turn the a/c off
however , the 09 dx-g I just bought apparently keeps the a/c on constantly if you are in defrost or deforst/floor setting
I dont know about you fellow canadians -but my car is practically always in the defrost or defrost/floor setting all the time -including summer months
I'm still trying to figure out if the a/c is actually on tbh . I dont feel a strain on the car like I used to when the a/c was on in my 99 civic ; however , according to the dx-g manual -the a/c comes on when in defrost or defrost/foot mode yet the green indication light signifying a/c ''on'' doesnt come on
anyways -in the thread that I listed -theres a way to program the defroster so that the a/c doesnt come on automatically and I was wondering if any fellow canuck 8th gen owners followed this method with success
I'm kinda pissed off at this feature
.Hopefully someone can help
thanks , butch

Re: defroster setting a/c
if the green light is off, the ac is off. if you are skeptical, park the car when running and open the hood. turn on the defrost and see if both radiator fans turn on and you hear the compressor click. if not, then it didnt come on. now i know that on the 7thgen, the rear defrost does have "silent" mode that always has the ac running even tho the ac light is off. i can hear it and feel it while driving and it uses alot of power. just one reason why i never use rear defrost nor do i really need to. now the floor defrost is different, it should turn the green ac light on. and on the 7thgen, you need to type a secret code to be able to turn the ac back off in floor defrost. im not sure on the 8thgen, but its easy to try just by listening under the hood and looking at the fans.
also some useful tidbits. the ac turns off under heavy throttle (more than 1/2), and below freezing the compressor is locked out and will not turn on at all.

Re: defroster setting a/c
gearbox-I'm pretty sure I know what you mean when you say the compressor is locked out below 0 degrees(freezing point)
before I did the DIY there was a day or two above 0 degrees celcious is which I heard the compressor kick in and out a few times as well as the engine fan going off and on more than usual
the bottom line though is I still would have done the DIY regardless of this info because I wouldnt want the a/c on unless I choose to have it on .
