I'd honestly have to say when I had the AEM V2 for the D17, it felt less responsive at the low end but when on the highway and flooring it its a bit better.
Only way to make it effective is if you tune the car. So I'd say its all for sound.

i'd say 5ish hp. Depends cuz ive got a k&n 57i which has a filter the size of my head and i think i get more power out of it most days. Especially when i have my cold air attatchment (aka k&n dryer hose zip tied on hahahaha)

Just take note that the 6.6hp increase is @ 5750 rpms. When you drive normally, shifting @ 3000 - 4000 rpms, you won't notice a difference.
CAI or SRI, it doesn't matter. Its all the same crap, because we have D17's. I've had both CAI and SRI, and they both perform the same. Its all sound. If you're willing to dish out money for sound, then do it.
