SWAP question! pleas dont flame im a noob!

hey everyone, im sorry if this is a really dumb question and mind u i dont really know alot about engines at all, pretty much a noob still when its comes the under the hood but i couldnt find anything on it. i was thinkin of swaping my 01 LX motor for an 02 Si motor.

i'm far from having enuff money for a k20, but an si swap is what i can afford for now anyways.. i know that my LX engine now wont improve much or even at all with the things i have on right now which is an intake, headers, down pipe and a full exhaust system (high flow cat, mid pipe, etc). i was wondering is it the same scenario with the 02 Si? or will the Si be a lil more responsive to those parts plus having the hyper voltage system?

the swap is gonna cost me around 1000 installed. so is it worth to do in my situation? cuz yea as far as the k20 thats gonna be a loooong time down the road b4 i even consider it. hehe i wish money grew on trees sometimes.

thanx everyone!

you should just do the si head swap instead. saves you the trouble from pulling the whole engine/transmission out. Only thing might be different is the compression.

it's not worth the money unless you have extremely high amount of km's on your engine or there's something wrong with it.

I wouldn't do it but it's your money.
Like 1llmatic said, save for a turbo kit... way more rewarding.

see i would want to turbo too. but the thing is turbo will cost up to 2000 or more. and plus my car is a daily driven car all year round. i need a reliable car. and once i slap a turbo on the the engine i have now. the reliability facter goes down the drain..

Big time myth.
Its not the turbo what kils engine, it is abuse what kills it.

I drive my Turbo Acura Day/Night/Summer/Winter/On road/Relative off road did not have anything happen, but normal wear and tear.
If I had $ I'd take my car around the Globe with out any hesitation.

I can only agree on the part where turbo may decrease total engine live, but we're talking about 300000 vs. 250000 before overhaul, it is all in relative terms though.

Just to add one more thing: Turbo and problem - for some reason people put these together words way to often. In my personal opinion, the reason for this, is just an unsupported fear of technology....
It is like saying: Oh, use floppy disks, dont use hard drives, they spin @ 7200rpms and if something goes wrong your computer will stop working and you'll loose all your data (I guess it is close enough )

You can pick up a vtec head, and solenoid for a few hundred, then all you need is something like a v-afc if you want to keep your stock ecu. You'd probably end up saving a couple hundred cause you could do the head swap yourself.

Theres an awsome DIY on this site. Look for it, it might help with your decision. If your thinking engine work, do you plan on doing ot yourself/friends. If your going to a garage, plan on paying $$$ to get the work done. either turbo OR swap.

IMO dx/lx vs si ...... all the same. SLOW. I have actually beaten an Si before, I have a DX and I have ALOT less wieght than an Si. It also depends on the driver. If you want to REALLY feel your bang for your buck, don't waste it on an Si swap. Do it right or don't do it at all. Save up for a b18, a k20, or a turbo.
