Carputer + rain = quiet drive to work this morning
Well, you all know how crazy the rain was last night, I was downtown at an awards ceremony for work then dropped of a couple of friends at their office in Etobicoke. Drove around with the lil lady for a while shopping and foraging for food. Dropped her off at her house around 1am then drove home, carputer still working properly. It was raining even harder on the way home, but I was pretty confident in my trunk setup so hurrah.
Woke up this morning and turned on the car, carputer started as usual, halfway through a snoop video. Not 10 seconds later the damn thing shut off and now it won't even turn on. I'm positive the mobo got shorted due to some moisture getting in. I'm hoping the short stopped at the motherboard, cause it's not posting at all, and even with dead components if the motherboard is functional it'll still POST. If anything maybe a new processor is as far as I'll have to go (DAMMIT!!!), the lil lady is shopping for a mobo for me right now too. And let's not rule out the miniscule possibility that the short was only temporary and the sucker might turn back on tonight. There are no signs of moisture/corrosion/deposits anywhere on the mobo too.
Looks like it happened on the way home, I remember opening my passenger rear window and my seat on that side was down cause I was troubleshooting some noise coming from my amp fan. Fack I'm pissed, why wasn't I THINKING?!?!? Funny thing is for the water to get all the way from my rear window into my trunk it would have to pass by the DC-DC PSU I have installed, and I checked it, fully functional and dry as a bone. No signs of trunk leakage, that's the first thing I looked at. After this I think I'm gonna get to work designing a new housing. I'd originally left the case wide open for access and cooling but now I may work in a liquid-cooled design and cover the case, I can't afford a fire in the trunk, ya know?

Poor Will .. I'm sure you'll sort the problem out, hopefully doesn't cost you too much. And at least it reminds/makes you improve on the set-up

FIXED! I bought a new mobo and a HUGE new Thermaltake fan - it's so big I was worried about it clearing the side panel of my custom trunk. Hoooweeeeeee!!! Me so happy!!!!
Exciting. What mobo did you end up getting?
This is my second system, and luckily haven't had a problem yet.
Here's the one I've been using for a while: SP1300. Its stable like a rock. I love it, and regret not getting it from the get go.

That's so tiny dude! I'm contemplating going to the M1 format myself. This time because I didn't want to deal with reinstalling Windows, and it's been months since my last backup, I just bought an identical Asus P4P800VM and popped it in, worked first try (OK second try, I forgot to plug in the big ATX plug). The system is totally stable now, I'd say partly due to the updated BIOS too. I also got the ThermalTake Big Typhoon heatsink/fan, it's freakin HUGE! The thing turns like 1250RPM but the fan is like 6" across so it moves tons of air. I went from 38 degrees (I know way too hot) to just over 30, measured after about 30 minutes of typical (**** and mp3) use.
