honda service question.
i have an '02 civic due for a type D service($349+tax). the only problem here is that i'm pretty tight on cash. i noticed that the only difference(besides the price) between type D and type B($175+tax) is that they replace the dust and air cleaning filters + they adjust the drive belts. i don't really drive my car much, only 47K in almost 4 years. should i skip this service and just do the standard oil/filter change($30+tax) in it's place or should i do the type B instead? my type E($375+tax) won't be due for another 48K after this service.
need some opinions.

I'm not really familiar with this and that Type, but drive belts should be fine till 110k. I would just stick to the fluids, an oil and (if you're due) tranny change.

oh I just noticed you're in Canada, so that's 47k km, I wouldn't worry about anything then other than what I just stated above, you're belts can go to like 200k km I think (if I remember my conversions right). And maybe the air filters, but you can do those yourself and save lots. read around, there are post on changing the cabin filter and places to buy them cheap along with normal air filters.
My type D service didnt even say "adjust" drive boots it said "inspect". So basically they looked at it and it required no adjustment. I had about 48K when that service was done.
Also the air cleaners are an easy DIY and it shows you how in the manual if you want to just buy the filters and install yourself. They are behind the glove box.
The air cleaner in the engine is another easy DIY if you want to just pic up a filter and install it yourself.

If you just get a Lube.oil filter you will miss the following from a type D
rotate tires - you could DIY this but you said you dont drive too much
service front and rear brakes - not a problem if your brakes still feel good
inspect steering and tie rod ends
inspect suspention components
inspect drive shaft boots
and then the air filter stuff discussed above
basically you are missing alot of "inspection" so if money is tight and the car is running good you might as well save the $$.

tire rotations i do myself every six months or so when i put my summer rims on in spring and take them off for winter. my brakes seem fine so i guess i'll just go with the oil change.
i guess honda scheduled tune ups are quite a rip off.

I have about 80k on my car and I haven't done anything but regular oil changes. Hell I don't even take my car into Honda to do it. Most of the times I'll just buy my own oil/filter and change it myself.
Type B, C, and D are just a huge waste of money. Those services aren't necessary, they're just options.

do you clean and lube your front brakes? honda has a bad rep for corroding brake assembly.

Check to see if the tranny is due for a flush.... If you have an auto, I'm sure your over, and would highly reccomend you to do that. If you have a manual, they can go a little longer.

I', at 106,000KM and I never bothered to go for that type D service. It's a waste of money. I'll be going to Mr.Lube for a fluid flush before winter, and I'll get my timing belt replaced at like 140,000 I'm not worried. DOn't bother wasting your money on those service schedules.
Yes, it's an Acura EL

I'm at 94000km and I stopped going to Acura for my service early in 04. I watched the service guys, all they did was change the oil (easy DIY) and check my fluid levels (should do that between services anyway). I just check the manual every time my MAINT REQD light comes on and see what Acura would have done, then just do it all myself. It's all easy till you have to get a valve adjustment or timing belt change anyway.
That said, I'm a month overdue for changing brake fluid. Perhaps now is the time to see if RSX or SiR rear stainless brake lines fit on my car....
