Anyone Anything About Engine Swaps n' Turbos?
Wassup Everyone!
ok heres the deal. i wanna swap my engine and turbo it. BUT i wanna know what can i put in. i dont wana spend a fortune on the swap or else i'd get the type s swap. i dont intend on taking it to the track, just wanna have a lil more fun on the street. not race or anything like that, just make driving more interesting. i was thinkin swaping my LX or an Si engine and getting a turbo. does anyone else have any other idea? i juss dont know what can fit in our cars. and i heard from someone that if u turbo a car it cuts the life out of the engine is this tru?
thanks everyone!

Quite obviously forced induction has the potential to shorten your engine's life - you're slamming more air and fuel in there than it was designed for - this is why most people build up engines that they're going to boost.
There's no point getting a VTEC D17 over a non-VTEC one. In fact, it's a common (but not absolute) belief that VTEC complicates boosting. If you're going to swap make it worth the labour costs and get a K series engine. If you just want a little more kick then spring for a turbo kit, dial in some mild boost, and get happy. bakablo is a great resource on turbo, he has (had?) one on his car.
You should peruse the Forced Induction/Swap forum on here for ideas on your intended path. I learned a lot on there before I gave up on boosting/swapping.

exactly what telly said, i also am looking into forced induction and there are many things to consider. For example, components of the compressor alone are very complicated and a myriad of factors such as trim, and housing.
there is also the issue of cost which is a major factor in going turbo.
Just a telly said, just read up and research on it and you will have a better idea on what you are going to be up against.

no point in swapping anything in your civic unless its a k-series motor.
to do a swap and then turbo....start saving because its going to be mega dollars to do it right.
make sure you realize the rammifications of turbocharging and/or doing a motor swap.
be prepared for increased mantainance costs....higher gas costs (94 octane)
no more power steering no more a/c etc... avoiding police because of the fear of losing your plates.
just make sure u have the time and the money to invest or you will face alot of frustration.

it will cost quite a lot of money for swap + turbo.
I was thinking about engine swap but I decided to get a car that comes stock with a turbo and go from there....I am glad I did that route because I can't justify spending $10,000-12,000 into my 7th Gen.

thanx everyone for the comments, i really appriciate it! i guess for now i'm gonna leave my car for more show then go... then maybe later on if i want go juss save up and get a car that can handle the modifications. thanx every one once again!
the 7thgen isn't the best platform to make fast.
But you can make it fast...it just costs money
mind you with any car...you have to take into considerations of everything when you are dealing with modifications.
gotta pay to play.
