NEED ADVICE from can east re: audio and alarm
k so I have a friend saying he has a friend that works at best buy
should i buy from there in hopes of maybe getting a litttle deal?
any advice on sizes...im thinking 2 10s or 1 12
yay or nay to which brands??
i know rockford is good pioneer is ifffyy sony is ????
style or quality also (should i get the stuff that looks hot ex: audiobahn amp or the good quality amp?
and is it worth spending more than 200 on an alarm system for the future or jus gettin basics for not too many insane mods...

i hear that there isnt that great of deal available on the audio stuff from best buy. but i could be wrong... and i think if ur debating 2 10s or 1 12 it depends what kind you are getting and how much watts and amps and so on. i dont know too much about it but i know that its really hard to say with not much info, cause 2 competition 10s can sound very good and so on. i also hear good things about kicker subs and serwin vegas. but those are also pretty pricey.
for stuff like that if ur not looking for anything huge anyone u talk to will always have a friend that is selling subs! and they are always in the price range of 200 with box... somehow everyone i talk to tells me the exact same thing and thats how it is..

One twelve will pound STUPID HARD. That'd be sweet but if you don't need to make your eardrums bleed then a single 10 would be perfect. And of course you have to go quality over appearance with every component of your audio system.
The amount of money you want to spend on your alarm should really reflect how desirable you think your car or its modifications are. Personally I value my ride as a whole more than her components so I bought as well-reputed and configurable as I could afford. I don't think 200 bucks is too low for an alarm, but make sure it has all the features you deem necessary for protecting your ride.

What type of music do you listen to ?? If its more fast paced bass such as techno or something, two 10s in a sealed box would be good enough... but if you listen to hip hop or rock, maybe something a little bigger wouldnt be so bad... I am running two 12" rockfords in a sealed box right now and it is getting the job done! rockford amps perform and look good too so i dont think you can really go wrong with them...
as for an alarm, i suggest getting something with a pager

I agree with Telly for the alarm. I suggest a pager alarm at minimum.
I also suggest a ported box as opposed to a sealed as, from my experience, a ported box is much better.
a 12 and an amp is enough, if ya wanna go nuts then go for it and get 2 12s or something, but my advice is, dont spend, say, $200 on 2 nice 10s, go for the SICK 12 for $200!

Here are my thoughts on audio
-Stay away from sony !!!
-Ported boxes are the way to go
-One 12" is good for most people including myself (Most people think I'm running two 12's...lol)
Personally I'd stay away from bestbuys for car audio. If you want a little thump, sure spend the money and buy a cheap system from best buys. Remember, you not only have to buy the sub, and box. Don't forget about the amp, and wiring as well. Are you going to be installing yourself?? or can your friend do that for you?? If not, your going to have to pay for labour and that is going to add up.
Its best if you buy some decent equipment, cause in the end you eventually pay for what you get. All the subs at bestbuys suck, including the new fosgates. If you not going to do it right, I say don't even bother doing it.

BTW, installing, while it takes a while to 'do it right' (hiding everything under panels as opposed to under your floor mats, running wires, etc) its not too difficult, so if you're planning on a DIY, before doing so, i suggest you ask for tips/things to avoid under the ICE forum so you dont end up frying your battery with a small mistake. Like I said, tis not too hard to install a system, it just takes time to do everything clean and correctly
If you're gonna get it professionally done, if possible, avoid giving your address and full name to the people installing... Ive heard a number of horror stories about people installing their stuff at best buy and future shop only to have it stolen by thieves who knew how to get to the prize and even how to disarm the alarm... Who knows better about disarming an alarm than those who install it? just something to think about

2) When someone tells you a single 12 will be better than a pair of 10's, you have to consider (like Nameless posted), do you want boomboomboom or do you just want to fill out that low end a little more? Also consider the box you're going with - ported will be boomier than sealed, but at the expense of some definition. My sealed box is not too boomy, but the bass is tight, especially for a 15. Don't go 15" by the way, it hurts your ears and scares your neighbors.
3) I like things.

Future Shop has some MAD special order abilities... Eclipse Audio and stuff... I think Cadance is a really good brand to go with if you have the $$$.
10s produce tighter lows so if you want to listen to rap and H/H... 10s are the only way to go (IMO).
I think Pioneer is ok.. If you ask my opinion... I think you should buy one with a higher voltage preout if you're gonna do your system right.
Do it once.. and do it right.

Well... you're right
I like tight bottoms too
haha..! But on a serious note...!
Most people that listen to HH and rap in Toronto are all about the BOOOOOMM BOOOOOMMMM and want to turn their honda civics into portable boom boxes... but for those who are looking to be an audiophile or something, you'll probably want something with additional definition as opposed to BOOM BOOOOOOMMMMMMMM BOOOOMMM (guy next to you feels his seats vibrate)

I ended up splurging this evening and just BUYING STUFF!
Went to a reputable local shop with a friend and picked up a Rockford package- 300 Watt Amp and 1 12" Sub and a ported box...we installed it tonite and it sounds nice..some serious cleannn sound!! .jus still playin round with the deck and what to set all the levels at to get the best sound...however we didnt get screws with the subs so we boguht some screws for wood from CT and used some washers to hold em in tight hopefully its goood
im almost scared to crank it for fear of blowing the sub now and wrecking it lol even though I know thats not very easy to do right?
the alarm they had comes with a pager and they merge ur honda remote so its only one remote for $450installed does that sound good? i forget wut brand but i believe its a good one...

$450 installed better be a decent brand... Try and find out what brand.
You should run your fosgate equipment @ 50% for the first day or so to have them break in then you can pound them.
Did you change your OEM speakers? Because if you haven't... you haven't heard "clean sound" yet heh. lol OEM speakers are shitty... paper cones...

yeah for 450 installed it better be more then a decent brand...
i know the aforementioned audio heaven (mentioned by telly) is currently offering a 2-way lcd alarm for $370 installed with a free back up siren and tilt sensor... just something for comparison sake...

I use to use stock speakers till I installed my subs.. then those stock speakers were just too shitty to keep up with the subs... My subs would always overpower my speakers.
You think your stocks are clear now.. and ok :P But just wait till you think "there's not enough bass". And the sound's just not clear enough...
Then you'll pick up a nice pair of speakers and you'll say "damn"

Oh.. and everybody's said it before... "This is more than enough.. it's clear enough.. it's loud enough".. but before you know it.. you'll be like "it's not loud enough.." then "it's not clear enough"
Everybody's been there... I have... been there done that - got the t-shirt.

And I assume audio heaven is in TO somewhere.
honda speakers are **** compared to any other car i have had. i cant stand them.. i need to upgrade soon. the best stock system iv heard yet was in my mustang that i had before the civic. they had some sort of mach speakers that killed... that thing pounded! there isnt really a comparison.... and where is this place with that alarm for 370!? like jer said.. toronto?
The alarm i was referring to is a Compustar, i cant believe i didnt mention that.

The best pair of stock speakers I've heard to date was in the Lexus showroom where they had the Mark Levinson system in the SC430... that **** sounded like I was in an opera house. Crystal clear sound...
Makes all of our systems sound like they're from Excess Cargo.

I would highly recommend Lockdown. I bought my alarm off them, CompuStar 2wfmas (2 way pager with remote start). I installed my alarm on my own but I think they're around $400 installed.
Great alarm

The 2 way is definatly worth the money... well to me it was.
The LCD of the alarm tells you exactly what's going on with your car... so if someone opens my door, my pager will go off and the door will open on the little car displayed on my screen... same goes with my hood, trunk, if someone sets off the shock sensor warning (shows a hammer hitting my car), and there's a pager feature on my alarm where you can knock on a certain part of the windshield and it'll page my remote.
Anyways, I like having that piece of mind when I leave my car parked outside somewhere. People that hear alarms go off in parking lots sometimes don't even look twice.
I like being able to monitor my car and run out to it if I know my alarm is going off.
