Pulled over this morning

YO

I got pulled over this morning on the highway in St. Catharines by the OPP. He followed me forever and then eventually pulled me over. I knew that eventually he would pull me over 'cause normally the OPP just fly by me at about 130 or something.

He was bustin me about my smoked license plate covers. He wanted me to take them off right there at the side of the highway with my suit on. I said I have no screwdriver, so he said that I should do it as soon as i get home. He told me that that smoked covers are illegal and he couldnt read my plate.

Then I tried the old "how come if they sell them at stores they are illegal?" trick.
He said they sell drugs too and those are illegal.
I said "Yeah but they dont sell drugs in stores"
Regardless, he asked for my license and told me to chage them ASAP. I didn't get a ticket.

But here is my real problem with being pulled over. He claims that the sun was reflecting off the cover and he couldnt read the plate (hence why anything covering you plate is illegal he said). But I was driving INTO the sun so the back of the car is in the shade. So I think he lied about that but I wasnt going to correct him cause it was lookin' like I wasnt going to get a ticket.

AHH feels good to post this.

OH and for all the people I recommended getting smoked license plate covers, I will take that back.

Well at least he didnt ticket you Jeremy! But in all honesty it sounds like he just wanted to complain about something. He probably felt the license plate was the easiest thing to complain about without you having a case for an argument.

Slimm- I dont think blue would match your ride but leave 'em on and ill give you my opinion tonight!

Plate covers are illegal... even the clear ones. It says in the Highway Traffic Act that anything altering the clear vision of your licence plate is illegal...that's not the exact wording but you get the idea.

So yes... clear/smoked/blue/yellow/anything that covers your licence plate is deamed illegal and a Police Officer can give you a fine for it.

I know, I've specifically read that section before but I didnt want to tell him that I knew they were illegal. I pretended like I didnt know.

werd.

The thing that sucks for you guys is that GTA cops are so frigg'n **** about every little mod done to your car.
Here in London cops really don't give a ****. I have smoked covers over my plates and i've never been pulled over because of them. I even have smoked taillights and never get hastled.

Yup, technically even the dealership license plate frames are illegal according to the law.

had the same thing happen to me too BUT, they asked me to pop my hood...and then he went on about my konis, my CAI (which has a CARB legal sticker on it), looked under the car to see if the CAT was still there, gave me a ticket for exhaust, license plate covers and speeding...was a COMPLETE IDIOT and had no idea what he was talking about....went to court, they dropped the exhaust and license plate tickets...

I've been warned to take off my blue cover .. and probably should soon to soon Though I laughed when the officer told me to. He was going house to house in our neighbourhood because of recent break-ins. Only mentioned the cover, nothing about my dark-smoked tails. But yeah, I know its illegal just like the 7thgen plate frames are illegal too (at least in Quebec) as they cover the Quebec writing - Je Me Souviens. I know a buddy that got ticketed for that offence before so

I removed mine but next time I purchase anything that is available at a store Im gonna say the following...

"they sell these at Canadian Tire (for the license plate covers), I pay for them, and I pay taxes on them that goes to the government...therefore the government is taking money for this 'illegal' product on my car, therefore, thats the difference between licence plate covers and drugs...furthermore, is it right for the government to make money of illegal products???"....

I would love to hear the explaination, or answer

They are illegal products ... when not used as described. Check the packaging, it should state off-road use only I know for a fact that my blue cover that had.

Think about how many of these things you see on like vans and otherwise-stock cars of all makes and models. A bunch of my friends (not car freaks like me and most of you) have them on their stock rides ranging from an old Sunbird to a BMW 3-series to a Dodge Ram, and they have never ever been pulled over for them. You think the cops would bother even pulling you over if you didn't have a big exhaust and 1" drop? Nope, it's a profiling thing.

^ Well said! thats the truth! I had a cop follow me into my work parking lot at 4:30 in the morning, and he ASKED me if I had a tinted plate cover in the back.

I said yes, he said take it off (the plate cover)

He gave me a warning, said if I didn't take it off, next time I'd get a ticket. I felt like saying F(uck you

Did you know cops reserve the right to write you a ticket up to 30 days AFTER the offense?
