Just got back from court...
Hey everyone
Well, i decided not to fight my ticket for 70 in a 60 zone
It was originally 81 in 60 zone but the cop reduced it on the spot.
I know its just 10 over but my insurance company said they may raise my rates.
Heres the story...
So i go in, and Im told by the lady at the front desk to go talk to the prosecutor at 1:30 (on the recess) and he may be able to do sthg quickly, possibly just throw it out since its "such a small ticket". So i go to speak to him, and theres this **** in front of me who gets a phone call and he tells the prosecutor to hold on while hes talking on the phone. Now the prosecutor, who is a **** frok what i have heard, is ticked
So he looks at my paper for literally 2 seconds and says "is 1339 here?" (The officer who pulled me over)
So no one answers. He then tells me "We're gonna bump that back to 21 like you deserve, then your insurance company will have a field day on you"
So i went to the front desk and paid the fu(king thing and left it. I figured, no use trying since he already has it in for me and does not like me cuz of mr cell phone's stupidity...
I didnt know they can retroactively bump the ticket just like that... Thats ridiculous... Also, I was not to happy about the fact that the prosecutor can threaten someone like that. Kinda makes ya a bit ticked cuz ya feel hopeless...
Well, just thought Id share!

I originally went to court to fight it but after the prosecutor said what he did, and I met some dude in outside the courtroom who told me he had bad experiences with the prosecutor and that the prosecutor "always gets his way" i figured i should pay the fine and be happy the cop dropped it to 10 over as opposed to the original 21 over
OUCH! i feel for you. good luck with the insurance, had the exact same ticket, cop bumped it down to 10 over a 60 zone instead of 21 over, tried to fight it, but just got the ticket reduced from 40 to 20,I had to speed up in order to merge safely into the next lane, i guess the momentum carried me over since it was a slight downhill. anyways, i got the record of 10 over and my insurance noted it with a big fat 500/yr premium raise

I have had a 25km/h over ticket, a 10km/h over ticket and another 25km/h over ticket (all three were reduced from 40km/h, 16km/h, and 40km/h respectively), and my insurance is still the same. I guess they havn't looked into my account with their random checks.
they did the same thing to me, they always lower on the spot threaten to raise it in court if you fight it.
Truthfully SIG the best way in court is to try and befriend the officer and give em a sob story that your a poor uni student, other then that, send a request for disclousre to the crowns office through registered mail and play the stall game

why didnt you wait!!??? you could of waited till see if the officer showed up!!!..... if he didnt, then lucky you. but if he did... all you had to say was that you WERENT going to fight it and you were just gonna pay it as it is.
ORRRRRRRRRRRRRR......IF the officer DID show up...... say that you wanted to request more time to get legal advice. ---> you have every right to ask for this and the judge will grant you this. (one of your reason for not getting legal advice in the first place could be b/c you were busy with school) and when you come back next time... you'll hope that you'll get a DIFFERENT prosecutor... or the officer doesnt show up.
now you gatta wait three years till the ticket is off your record.
good luck on the insurance

well i knew the cop was showing up cuz all the people who he booked in the speed trap were booked for court on the same day. They show the cop's badge # on the bulletin board and i was scanning it and i saw he had about 6-8 cases yesterday so i knew hed show up eventually, so i figured why waste time. VERY small chance hed miss that many court appearances.
Damn i shoulda made that legal advice request. dah well, its time to pray insurance decides not to rape another poor uni student...

even if the cop gave out 20 tickets.. and they all have the same date trial. it DOESNT necessarily mean that he will show up.
possibly reasons that he/she may not show up:
1. he was on call... he had to attend a car accident, or incident that someone reported. therefore.. he had to miss the court appearance
2. he had family issues to attend, wedding, birthdays...etc.
3. he just for some reason didnt feel like it.... maybe b/c he looked over the tickets that were going to trial and he knows that they're minor tickets.. and he was kind hearted that day to just say.. "i wont go today"
4. he's sleeping because he was working night shift the previous night.
5. ...... and whatever other reasons an officer may have
officers arent obligated to attend court dates... well, at least i dont believe so... b/c if they do, they ALL have to show up... and it'll even waste more money for court time.
officers give out stupid tickets sometimes b/c they are supposedly needed to give out a certain amount of tickets........... some dont, but most do.
all im saying is.. no matter how stupid the ticket is... or how wrong you know you are.... or how much of a jack a$$ the prosecutor may be... or the officer may be... take your chances... b/c you have a right to.
