Anyone do their 96k service?
I'm closing in fast on my 96k maintenance, wondering who's done it, and what it's going to cost approximately....
For my 2001 Acura EL, it's called the "Type E" service. I think more than likely I'm going to have to do these others too... Anyone know an approx price? It's RRSP time, hope I don't hit above $700
Good thing is I got a 15% off coupon from Acura in Markham
- 96,000 km Inspect Spark Plugs, Lubricate Threads and Replace if Necessary
- 96,000 km then every 48k thereafter Replace Transmission Fluid (automatic transmission)
- Headlight fluid flush
- JDM Headlight fluid, 5L.
Standard Type E includes:
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect parking brake adjustments.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Check all lights.
Inspect the underbody.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter.
Replace air cleaner element.

Headlight?!! You sure about that? 5L of it too?! Damn .. what's that 2.5L per light casing?
head light fluid?
do they drain and refill the conditioner fluid in your a/c too?
All those honda / acura service packages are full of inspections and from the way they phrase it seems they only "inspect it" not "Adjust or correct it"
heres my two cents,
Standard Type E includes:
Replace engine oil* and filter. -> Any mechanic will do for $20
Service front and rear brakes. -> You'll know if your low on breaks
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure. -> Again any mechanic
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease. ->hmmm JDM greese?
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots. -> mechanic could tell you while having your tires rotated
Inspect suspension components. -> Are your shocks blown? you should be able to tell
Inspect driveshaft boots. -> no comment
Inspect parking brake adjustments. -> your parking breaks probably a little loose, you going to pay honda to tell you that? Because no wher does it say Inspect and Adjust Parking brake
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS). -> Hmmm another mechanic thing
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks. -> Is your engine running hot? Is your oil black, is you tranny fluid pink? Is there a big stain in your drive way. Another thing most mechanics will do out of curitisy when doing an oil change
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections. -> if you ask a mechanic they'll have a quick look
Inspect exhaust system. -> Yep its there
Inspect fuel lines and connections. -> Fuels definatly pumping
Check all lights. -> turn on your lights walk around your car
Inspect the underbody. -> while your doing your tire rotation
Inspect and adjust drive belts. -> Possible useful
Replace dust and pollen filter. -> I guess if it needs replacing then thats great
Replace air cleaner element.-> ditto
wanna pay me the $140 that your gonna pay honda? take it to a local mechanic, its a honda civic, not an ferrari.

here's a question. would you take your car to honda/acura to modify it?
then why take it there to service it there to get ripped off?
why not take it to a performance shop? if you trust them to modify your car why not trust them for maintenance.

Forgot to add.... Who else here would change their timing belt at the 96k interval??
I have a feeling they're going to suggest to do it at 96k, to "save on labour" or something...

Furball .... notice that alot of that stuff on a type e service says "inspect" you can do that yourself. the Timing belt doesn't have to be changed until 100K
and if they throw the whole "If you don't come in for regular service, your warranty will be void" Most people are over they're warranty after 60K unless of course you got the extended 100K .... but either way at 96K your pretty close to 100K anyways
I think it's a rip off myself. I won't be going in for mine. Only for the Timing belt. thats it. ... and of course the oil.

anyone know the cost? i'm up for one too.
i think its good for them to look at your car at 96K, right before the standard warranty expires. that way you can get anything covered.
i got a hole in my cat at 83K. replaced under warranty.

Seriously?? wow thats good. becuase thats a good $400 job to get it done at Honda.
The 96K service is something retarded like $380.
Like I said .... they "inspect" all the innards of your car. if you are at ALL mechanically inclined, or know someone who is, go take one of the little pamphlets they have at the dealership that outlines when each scheduled maintenance is due, and what each one entales, ie. oil, filter, rotate tires etc. this way you will know what you have to do
than do it yourself! Should save a shiat load of cash. might even only cost you a case of beer.

Holy cow! On the Acura website it says not to replace spark plugs or timing belt until 84mths/176k!
That wise?? (Though I'd never heard of dealers telling you to do anything LATER...)
- 96,000 km Inspect Spark Plugs, Lubricate Threads and Replace if Necessary
- 176,000 km Replace Spark Plugs
- 84 mths/176,000 km Replace timing belt and inspect -water pump
- 84 mths/176,000 km Inspect Idle Speed
