Few questions (new SI Coupe, grade rebate program, etc)

Ok here are a few issues I am having:

1. I am looking to buy a new silver 2005 Civic SE Manual. Basically I want this car to last a long time (15 years if possible?) My plan is to run this car year around for about 2 to 3 years, then hopefully purchase a summer car such as an s2000 when I am a little but more well healed, and only use this car as a run-about, winter beater... So far the best price I have negotiated on a new 2005 Civic is $20,000 including all taxes out the door (license extra, which is understandable).

- Should I wait for the new 2006 civic and purchase that instead? Mainly I am worried that if I change my mind and dump this car after 2 to 3 years, if the new body style coming out will have a negative impact on the resale value of this car. Did that happen to 6th gen's when the 7th gen came out?

- I am also assuming the 2005 will be the most reliable civic ever, which is basically what I am looking for, since they had lots of time to work out the bugs.

2. Sisley Honda claims I can get a graduate rebate of $500 on this car (effectivley making the car $19,500 out the door - which I think is pretty good... it took less than 5 minutes to get this deal, so I am assuming I could go even lower?) Does anyone know if Honda has a graduate rebate program or are they blowing smoke? I am skeptical because I graduated in April of 2002 and it is almost 2005 now. I made that clear to the salesperson and he still said I could get the rebate.

3. When I test drove this car (the SE with standard 14" wheels) I noticed that it had MASSIVE amounts of body lean around corners. Is this normal? I also noticed the break pedal feels was very spongy. Again, is this normal? It was a charcoal grey model with about 135 KM's on it.

- I am planning on putting 16" Yokohama AVS E100 performance tires on during the summer. Will this correct the body lean, or is the suspension just that soft? I am assuming alot has to do with the crappy 14" tire setup.

4. What is the best color for durability, resale value? I am looking at the Charcoal Grey and Silver. Leaning towards silver...

Thanks!!

I can offer a few peices of advice

As far as color goes, silver will be best cuz it hides scratches and blemishes best.

As for the resale value, yes, a car indeed depreciates more when a new model comes out. As for the 2006 civic, i wouldnt get it because the bugs in the car are bound to be there. I mean, honda did do a good job on the 7thgen accords (2003+), or maybe my brother just got lucky, cuz his only problem was the clutch was making weird noises but its fine now (knock on wood). So maybe Honda has learned how to rectify problems by testing things out and making the required adjustments as opposed to just sending things out and then making massive recalls...Hm, Or maybe my bro just got lucky, who knows!

Regardless, the 2005 model is likely the best 7thgen to get as far as faulty parts go, but it will depreciate quicker because of the new 8thgen. Your options aint too good cuz its between 2005 which will depreciate quick, and the 2006 which will likely have some bugs. In the end, id personally go for the 2006 if i couldnt wait for the 2007 but thats just me.

Im sure some other members can give you some advice on the other questions. Good luck!

at this point in the 05 life cycle you wont get any lower on the car.............i got the same price as you but on an 04 LX coupe............so basically got $2000 off more than you did

but that was because again it was a remaining 04. Honda has a policy of not negoitiating too much on their cars as that would reduce re-sale values which is one of their biggest selling points.

If you can wait another year, if you dont mind having the 7th gen style, you will get a killer deal on the 05 next sept when the 06 8th gen comes out......

oh and to answer your other questions

yes silver would be a good colour to meet your criteria, i have black and love it but its hell to keep clean and maintain

yes honda does have a rebate program............it covers the last 4 years i beleive..........because they never had one before that

as for the body lean, i feel it with my 65 series 15" tires, i suppose the new lower profile tires would help, but it has more to do with the suspension setup

Yeah just upgrade the suspension

Drop it and get some good shocks and you'll have tight handling like ya want with no lean. Then get an upper strut bar, rear tower bar and you're gonna have amazing handling
