How does shipping work from the US to Canada? Is it just one fee and then the product is delivered to your door? Are there any other fees involved? and whats the cheapest place to ship stuff?

There is a discussion there about taxes and brokerage from UPS.
If its UPS you are using to ship something you will pay 15% tax on the CDN dollar value plus a very high brokerage fee. They start at about 20 -30 cdn dollars.
The cheapest way is to have the vendor put a low value on the goods. Saves tax and brokerage, but that not legal.

USPS is crappy.. i've heard of them losin quite a few packages
FedEx, or TNT all the way
(in the end, you're sorta limited to whatever place the shop wants to send through)
