Exclamation Insurance question

Hey guys, I have a question regarding my insurance. Since this September, I've been attending university in Scarborough and I have not been driving at all because I rented a place walking distance to the school. Therefore, it is reasonable that I have my insurance cancelled on the car I never drive right? Well here's the problem. When my mom asked the insurance agency CIS (they work through Lombard Canada) to cancel it, the broker told my mom that she's not allowed. The reason being my home is in Markham and that I'm still in Toronto. Of course my mom didn't do anything except say okay being the soft person she is. On the other hand, I'm saying holy WTF, that's the biggest BS ever! I know some friends that have drivers liscence and don't have insurance because they don't drive. And I'm pretty sure some people out there can't afford to pay hefty insurance because of accidents or whatever. So how does being in Toronto automatically subject me to pay insurance. By the way, I pay 1500/yr as an occational driver on a 2001 4dr lx. I think the chinaman my mom is dealing with is pure scams. What do I do, do you guys know of such laws?

of course if you dont drive the car no more the insurance can be cancelled, BUT it depends, if your insurance plan was for half year? one year? cuz i think theres no refund if you have an annual plan

Okay, I contacted our broker at CIS. I asked him to remove me and he says he can't because of "the policy". So I ask him what policy and he failed to respond with a reasonable answer. He kept changing the subject saying how he's been dealing with us for a long time and crap like that. I did not buy that, I continued to ask him for the legal papers that states I need to pay for insurance despite I live in a "SEPARATE HOUSEHOLD" from m parents now. I know its true that if I lived under the same household, I would have to pay insurance because I'm a legal driver. Because he knew there was no such policy, he failed to handle me and just said.....okay, then prehaps you should find another insurance company and then hung up.

Man, now I have to look for another insurance agency/company. The guy was a *****. Anyone got any suggestions for insurance agencies? Also, is it true that those chinese agencies tend to be cheaper than to obtain insurance directly from a large company. That is only my speculation as the trend reflects that chinese people does things for cheaper all the time

This happened to my girl's family too. When her family asked about taking her off her insurance when she moves out of the house, the broker kept saying that she will still be part of the "family", and thus have to be counted.

I think all it is is the broker gets **** from the insurance company if they have even a person cancel, probably they have to meet some quota. With the insurance industry as it is though, it's really a monopoly for them, and you really have no choice.

What you need to do is change the address on your driver license then take that to them, or the insurance company if the broker ignores you, and say you are legitimately seperated from home. If your driver license is still your home address, then it's less convincing.

not all insurance brokers are *****, dont hate on chinese brokers, haha, i guess they didnt explain clearly, usually for a household package (house / auto / life insurance), if you buy it all together theres usually a special rate, like if i get insurance for my car and my sister's car together + house insurance, i got 20% off the whole thing, but if either of one part out, there will be no discount. It's better to read the policy and find out what plan you are using first and than deal with the broker or insurance company
