!HELP! Got a speeding ticket

okay.. here's what happened..
i was driving on Leslie going northboud at about 02:00am
....... and there was this cop pulling me over from behind and claimed that I was driving 80km/h in a 60km/h speed zone and gave me a ticket!!!!

here're my questions:

1. Since the cop wasnt camping in a spot. . he followed me for a while and pulled me over.. do you guys think that he had used a ragar gun or not?!??!?

2. going over 20km/h is a 3 points ticket.. what is the percentage that i can get rid of all 3 points since i am plannig to fighit this on my own??!?... how about getting rid of 2 points?!?!?

3. I seriously dont want my mom to know that i got another speedidng ticket. . so is it possible to change the mailing address to somewhere else without affecting my insurance company nor anything else?!?!?!?!?!?!?.. like they are not gonna send another letter to my house to inform that i have changed the mailing address.. then i'd be more fu(ked.....

any help'd be much appreciated.. i am so pissed now......

to answer the question to number one!! cops don't have to be at a stand still to clock you on there radar they can be driving the opposite direction and radar you so yea he was prolly using the gun!! besides how fast is 80kmh? in mph?

And how do you plan on fighting this?

Oh yea and to answer number 3 just be truthul and honest up front to the parents ...believe me !! just get it out the way!! i mean it's not like there gonna kill you are they?

1) he followed you so if he travels at the same speed as you are by keeping a constant distance with you then he will be able to tell your speed ...

2) is this your first ticket ?? yeah go fight yourself ! 20km over is not too much ... take the chance and the prosecutor may reduce your charge or best of all the cop will not show up ...

3) I dont think you should change your mailing address ... I agree with Mr.Modify that be honest up front to your parents ... 20km/h over is not a big deal at all ... I am sure your parents reached that speed as well !!

Good luck !!

3) you'd have to change the address on your licence. so unless you plan on moving there's another fine not living in the place on your licence with a few exceptions, ie. just moved or in school residence.

a police officer can pace you and get enough probable cause to pull you over, with out using radar. as far as changing your address, doesnt matter, your insurance will still find out about the violation regardless of where you live.

He doesn't have to have "proof" of your speed. It's his word against yours, who's the more trustworthy one in front of a judge?

Chances are he won't show, but you're best to fight it with a ticket fighter if it's your first.

A ticket like that will cost you $300CDN from XCopper, etc...

They'll "guarantee" you'll win...... But it's THEIR definition of win... Just read their fine print, speak to them, etc.

I was screwing around with a friend up in Markham this summer, and ran into a TRAP! Nope, this was not a radar gun after a hill, etc.

There was a DECOY broken down car on the right lane on a 2 lane stretch of Steeles near Markham Rd... Well, since cars go quite fast there, people switch lanes quick to get to the left lane.... A cop walks out and puts out his hand to pull him over, and ALSO pulls me over! Asks my friend if he was racing with me, my friend said I don't know the other guy... So cop let me go, he got a 21km/h over or something...

XCopper said for $300 he will guarantee NO FINE, and NO 3 POINTS OFF.

Since I was the idiot that kinda got him into the racing mood (he doesn't speed at all), I paid half.

In summary, don't fight it yourself, and don't be a little kid. Poney up the money, poney up to your speeding, and take your licks from momma.

And how do I KNOW it was a decoy car?? It was a run down beater, didn't look like it could even drive 1 km... We drove back a few hrs later, car was gone. Not exactly real proof that it was a decoy car, but under the circumstances it sure felt like one.

On another note: Changing your driver's license means you must legally change your insurance papers as well. Since momma's paying your *** for insurance, you can't notify insurance.

Put it this way, you can technically do what you're thinking, but if you get pulled over with insurance and driver's license with different addresses, that's ANOTHER TICKET. Your INSURANCE is considered to be NULL AND VOID (in a sense, don't take me as a cop or legal defender).... The cop can scare and screw you again.

well.. here the story continues......

i went to the the court office today and chose option 3 which was to challenge the cop about this ticket.. so they made me to write this yellow form to confirm it...

However, there was this line that i had to fill in the address on that form, so i asked one of the cops if i can write my "mailling address", which is different from the one i have on my driver licence(home address)

I told him that I am still a university student and i am temporarily living on schol residence (which is totally BS, but whatever.. i dont know what else i can say)
so that cop said... as long as I can be sure to get all the further notice by that address i fill in.. then it should be fine.. it wouldn't by any chance affect my insurance whatnot.......

so i am wondering what does everybody on the board saying about i am likely to get another ticket for doing this or my insurance is void or something...?!?!..
if anything, was that cop lying to me!?!?!??!

i didnt change any address on my driver or anyting.. all i did was to write my gf's address on that trial chanllegning form or whatever thats called...

If you hire a ticket fighter, they will make you fill a form that makes the offense office send all mail to them instead of you. So technically you can have the trial papers sent to other addresses, but it's your *** being fragged if you don't get those papers or if they're lost being sent to another address. If they send on error and it doesn't get to your home address, you can still have some excuse, but if the papers don't get to your GF's address, it's nobody's fault but yours.

Bottom line, take the advice from all of us here, be up front about it. Your parents will eventually find out. Even if you pay a ticket fighter, there's still a chance that the 3 points only get reduced, then it'll show on your next insurance renewal anyway...

Delaying bad news only amplifies it's effect.
