Question Blacked Out Headlights - Good or Bad?

I was just wondering what everyone thought about blacked out headlights.

Do you like the look?
Have you ever had problems with the sealing or moisture getting inside?

I always take my projectors off for the winter and replace them with my stock headlights, but I think I might want to go with the blacked out look.

Anyone selling theres or who is the expert at doing it.

if you seal them properly then you will not need to worry about moisture or anything

Yeah, I love the JDM look. I like them more than projectors even, and it only cost me $7! It was super easy with the DIY's on this site, I have not had any problems with leaking myself, but then I used a hella lot of Silicone to seal them back up

i've taken my headlights apart twice.

first time was last fall season.. to clear my headlights.
second time was a month ago to do blackhousing. the paint colour aint exactly black.. its called "iron... case or something along those lines" ... its from cdn. tires.... like this colour over the black. viclx has it on his car as well.

i was gonna do whitehousing.. but went black first.. if i get tired of it, maybe white next year.

as for moisture or fogging... none whatsoever.... i just reused the type of glue it was on it originally... some type of windshield glue? ... well, and all i did was use silicone to reseal the sides...s o no air would get it.

oh ya.. one more thing. around the turning signal area........ there's some type of reflector design so when your turn signal flashs... it makes it appear bright so other cars can see it.

i painted mine over 'cause i tried to cover it with masking tape.. but it was such a b i t ch doing it.. so id idnt bother and just painted over it.

the turn signal now... doesnt appear to be as bright whne it flashes while you have a turning signal on.......... it's still noticable... but slighty.. haha, but i dont care. as long as it flashes.

Once again, can't say enough about Telly's good job on the headlights.... Mine fogged up and Telly applied his warranty and we re-did my lights....

Pics of a blackout session we had awhile back with Telly, his buddy Tim, lounge8110, and some hot car chick

http://821mark.50megs.com/BlackoutSession/

You'll find pics of blacked out Acura EL headlights, clear coupe headlights, and 1 pair of blacked, uncleared coupe headlights.

Hey Telly, can I take my lips off your butt now?

Hey Telly

How much would you charge me to do mine. I have them sitting in a box right now and I could just drop them off and leave them with you for about a week.

I dun really need the cash. What I want is to see pimped rides, and if it's something as simple as headlights, then yeah I'll be glad to help.
Just as a side note tho - it's gettin a lot colder nowadays and with the end of the car season comes the end of headlight mod season - it'll be hard to do a one-day mod like headlights for example, cos I couldn't be comfortable sending someone home with a pair of freshly sealed headlights - the goo is still drying, and during the summer it's OK, cos it dries a lil faster. In winter it'll take bloody forever. If the lens shifts or something contacts the goo while it dries, then there may be a gap which moisture could possibly get into - like on Furball's headlights. So if ya wanna do it, whether DIY, myself or someone else, get to it quick!

What kind of bulbs are you using in those pics? I love the blue reflection on the inner chrome piece.

Hey nitehawk, most of the aftermarket "hyperwhite" bulbs available reflect blue like that. I use Showoff Kryptons myself.

Why not just buy black headlights, instead of doing all that painting yourself.

What do you think of Gunmetal headlights?

I find the gunmetal headlights I see on Ebay and such are too glossy...so it looks like just a slightly darker chrome. If you want nice dark gunmetal headlights, paint them like such:
- 2 coats of primer
- 2 coats of black automotive paint (that Motomaster Near Match stuff from Craptastic Tire works reasonably well)
- 2 coats of Duplicolor Wheel Paint (Graphite)

Done and done. I've done this on several cars and it looks pimped. Nice and dark, and since the finish is not super glossy, it really stands out when the lens is reassembled on. I'm gonna redo my own headlights soon with this combo...

Yeah my headlights turned out wicked, thanks to Telly.

Telly I think the headlights on your car already look mint! I was staring at them during the meet yesterday. They were sweet.

Thanks dude. Thing is they DON'T MATCH MY RIMS! I was overjoyed to pick up my rimmies this past June, but when I saw how different the shade of gunmetal was between my heads and my rims, I was more than a little pissed. So now I gotta take them off and match the shade...using the DIY below.
