I have been visiting Wheels-Direct off and on, never buying anything because of their lack-luster service. There prices are OK but their over-the-counter service is far from what I get elsewhere. I spoke with a sales guy today referring to me getting some new rubber. He was helpful but had some harsh words to say about my top pics (eg. Michelin, Bridgestone. He hates the "big guys"). Brand X vs Brand Y, no way, those tires suck! However, Brand Z would be a better choice. He seemed sincere in what he was saying but I tend to wonder whether or not the rubber fumes have gotten to his head. As like in all shops, sales guys tend to have their own preferences, which normally get thrown at the customer when they ask or tell them their own preferences. Nonetheless, this is typical sales room technique . . . understood.
However, I was just wondering whether or not, seeing as how Wheels-Direct is the largest tire/rim dealer in Scarborough/T.O, if their credibility matches up to their personal preferences and product offerings? I don't know a lot about tires and they really seem to know there stuff (I think?!?) . . . but should I truly believe in what they were saying? I am always a little weary of sales guys when it comes down to something that I really don't have any knowledge or interest in.
Bottom line . . . is Wheels-Direct credible in what they say? Furthermore, has anyone dealt with them before? How was there service as compared elsewhere? Who did you deal with? Can you recommend anywhere else that I go to before I buy from them (ie. other local tire shops)?
If you're curious as to what tires I am interested in, I posted a different post in the CAN EAST forum. Thanks for the replies in advance.

I also found that getting service took some time. The only thing I had done their was get a rim repaired and also got my rims installed their. They do things fast their such as tire install and stuff like that, but the main thing they are lacking is customer service.
By the way what kind of tires you interested in? All season, winter?

Wheels Driect's prices are competitive, but it seems to me they will try to talk you into spending more cash. I was also looking for all season tires for my old car last year and had several brands in mind. I went in for a price quote and the guy gave me prices, but at the same time was trying to convince me to instead get high performance summer tires and then buy a set of snows with steelies. Suffice it to say, I found better prices elsewhere so they didn't get my business.

IMO, tires is the most important part of your car that keeps your car on the road. The four contact patches of your tires is what keeps your glued to the road. So why would you want to go cheapy cheapy?
Everything is designed with specifications. There are so many models of tires because tire manufacturers try to market a specific model to a specific customer market.
IMO and experience.
Michelins are nice tires, but are over priced compared to its competitors. However, Michelin tires did dominate the second half of the F1 season. But if you were looking for all season tires from Michelin like those that came stock. They usually sucked ***. Mine did. XGT4 or something like that. Shietty tires jus tlike Bridgestone Potenza RE92s.
Bridgestone. You would think they are the best at making tires since they are the tire suppliers for F1 and CART. The funny thing is that not too many places carry Bridgestone. And their tires are a little pricey too. Their mid-level tires aren't so great ie. RE92s. USually they are more known for they higher end tires like S02, S03s, etc.
If you are looking for an all-season tire, mind you there is no such thing. Its just a marketing thing. Anyways, Yokohama, Dunlop, and Toyo offer really good tires. A balance between performance and price.
On my mother's Accord, its sporting Dunlop Sport A2s. These tires and its replaced model have won awards on Consumers Reports. Its the second set of those tires on it and they are one of the best choices IMO. It was a good choice especially when its going on my mother's car. Mother's are important, right? I mean who in their right mind would want their mother's car be riding on shiet tires?
I understand how people feel about sales reps pushing their preferences on to customers. Its understood as some of you have mentioned. But also keep in mind that not all shops are alike and that not all sales reps are alike. What one may call preference another may call experience. There are a lot of inexperienced people out there giving out poor advice; so watch out.
So what are you looking for? All season or snow tires?
