Question rims in NYC (actually a couple of questions)

uncle sam is about to hit me up wit some dough and I'm planning on using some of that money for some rims...I've did some looking and of course 18's with 215/35/18 looks hot. I also seen that 17's with 205/40/17 that, imo, looks almost as good. Well these are the only two options (with the exception of maybe 215/40/18) that I'm willing to get......I just want to know if these rims/tires combos can handle the streets of NYC (that is of course if I drive carefully)? (If I need more tire than I think I'ma stick with stock)

also, of course if I get the rims, I'm gonna need a drop...I really like that adjustable springs look (ie..ground control, skunk 2, tiens....etc) but I'm not willing to pay 1G for some springs (maybe in the future b/c my car is fairly new)...but after the snow storms and all, I believe my shocks have been through hell...if i throw some ground controls on, will it be able to, again, handle the streets of NYC without blowing a shock (I've seen how a couple of members have ground controls with stock struts/shocks), or should I just stick with lowering springs (eibach sportlines would be my choice)?

()<-----more parenthesis for good luck

mndthegap1 has a spectacular aura aboutmndthegap1 has a spectacular aura about
well i have 17's w/ 205/40/17 and i havent had any problems
and ive hit some big potholes
i use mine as a daily driving car and its fine, i know a few
people w/ 18's and they also drive daily in queens and LI and have
no problems.
as for a drop, im gonna go with eibach pro kit, it wont be the biggest drop but imo it will be enough... maybe you could consider those, there only 250 and if the drop is 1" to 1.5" you dont need to get a camber kit either.(so ive been told) thats my 2cents...
but if i had to choose ild go w/ the 18's im looking to get 18's in a few months

I'd get 45's with the 17 if I were you. Nice noticeable drop with the Sportlines in my opinion.

i wouldnt do coilovers in the winter time in new york. from what people say, the perches get locked up with the road salt and stuff. that is why i went with springs. sportlines are a good drop and they will be perfect on some 18's. if i were u, go with 205/45/17 tires or 215/35/18 tires because those are the same diameter as stock i believe. i know the 205/45/17 is not sure bout the 18's.

ps - i have goldline springs, 1.75 drop with 16's now but going to get 205/45/17 wheel/tire package very soon.

I recommend getting 45 series tires too. You are always better off with a little more side wall. This wont totally safegaurd you from bending a rim or getting a flat tire but it will protect your rims more than a 40 series tire will.

i got 215/45/17 and im going with goldlines, which is a 1.75 drop, without the drop, they look pretty decent, cuz the wheels take up a lot of the extra wheel space

I got 18's with some 35's and I haven't bent yet. Praise the Lord.

I have hit some serious pot holes too.

I have Velox rims and they are made awesome. If you buy some good quality rims you should be fine. Just dodge them holes. That is what I do.
