Need an apartment in New York.
I'm starting a job just a block or two away from New York's Penn Station.......I think it's in Manhattan but not sure. so I need an apartment somewhere there or even a half hour in any direction but near the train. Furnished would be nice but I can deal without.
Also, I'm going to be driving my car from Atlanta to New York in mid April, if someone's got a couch I could crash on at a halfway point, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll show you the gadgets in my car!

Re: Need an apartment in New York.
I'm going to be working at 600 3 Avenue doing software development and database management. I haven't found out for sure yet but Google Maps makes it look like there's zero parking for employees so I'll have to do public transportation to get there. Is there anything quick and easy from the New Jersey places you mentioned?
SSMCivic2K5, are you saying you got an apartment for rent there?

Yikes, I can get a studio on the island for that. I'm going to call around to a few places in Yonkers/White Plains/Manhattan tomorrow, keep posting up anything you think of.

Re: Need an apartment in New York.
I just called a place in Yonkers called Hudson Park and they got a 1 bedroom with all appliances, concierge service, covered parking, full gym and community room, sounds great right? So I called them up and the girl in their call center tells me the parking spot is included with the room and the included gym will help me save on a gym membership in the area. Awesome!
So then I get a call from the guy who'll actually do the leasing and he tells me the price is $1988 per month......that's fine. Then he says there's a $110 application fee......WTF is this? I've mvoed about 7 times in the last 4 years, never have I had to pay a fee to have someone look at my application. But fine, **** it. Then he tells me there's a $500 amenity fee......WTF is this now? He tells me it's to pay for the gym, concierge, community room, basically all the things the girl was going on about but neglected to mention they're extra. Okay, **** it......I'll pay that too. Then he tells me the parking spot is $150 a month........holy hell. I'm paying $145 a month right now for a secure 15x20 storage unit in Atlanta and this crackpot wants to charge me even more for a simple parking space. This is crazy, I might as well get an apartment right in Manhattan itself.

the jersey city water front apartments are very nice. the PATH station (train to ny, about 15mins to 33rd st which is where penn station is at) is a block a way, theres also a ferry that u can take to manhattan. nice and clean and right on the water. nice view of the nyc skyline. http://www.newportnj.com/residences/...-rental-towers

I also got the Water Taxi right outside my building on the Humber River, it takes people to Manhattan every morning and the times are great. Plus it's probably faster than taking the train which is also right outside my building, but it's much more expensive. The train is $15.50 peak round trip and the Water Taxi is $12 one way. It's be nice though, they have 42 inch plasma televisions on board and also a business class if you feel like upgrading!
