Re: May Install Meet - May 27
^^^^ good, I just realized I might be hooking my air conditioner back up that day. We'll just have to see how well the swapping goes.
If it goes fast, I'll put the shocks in, it'll take me like 2 hrs.

Re: May Install Meet - May 27
Looks like I'll be a "go" for the meet. Not 100% but it looks promising. Justin, I'll be getting into town on the 19-20th, if you and Edwin want some help or anything, let me know, I'm sure I won't be doing anything and I'll be bored, plus I have a grip of tools.

READ THIS!!
I put some rules up on the first post - if you can't abide by them, then please don't come. This meet is going to be at my house so I want to be sure that I don't **** my neighbors or the HOA off.
What I need from you
1) Screen name + Real name
2) What you need done, if anything. If you are coming just to help, then put that.
3) Email - if you don't want it available to everyone, then PM me
4) choice of food -
Option A - whether you guys want me to have food and you chip in
Option B - whether you want to bring food (pot luck style)

Hey,
Looks like the 27th is gonna work for me too. I just repaired my radiator support, so that I can drive to Panama City Beach, FL (May 12th-19th) and not be worried about my hood opening. Alex, I could meet up with you and Justin so we can roll together to the meet since I dont know how to get there either (a little pre-cruise). Heres my info:
1) K20EX - Tim
2) Might rewire my OBD2 port, if not Ill help with installs and bring my tools
and know-how (for whatever its worth)
3) tmmoore@vt.edu
4) I like the BBQ idea (dogs, burgers, and sides from the supermarket when
we get there) So, I guess thats Option A. Maybe Ill bring some brew as
well.

Re: May Install Meet - May 27
A headgasket is a major job. You gotta pull about half the engine bay apart (accessory drives, the crank pully the timing set, the manifolds (including the fuel system and throttle linkage) the head itself off,etc...), and being able to re-assemble it is contingent on whether or not the head and block are still flat. In view of the likelihood that they're not, doing a headgasket job in a place where a car cant be left for an extended time while the head, the block (i.e. pulling the motor and tearing it down) or both are resurfaced, it doesnt loan itself to a meet job. Even if no resurfacing is needed, when you put it back together, you'll have to re-time the motor and put the whole thing back together. I just did it out of the car and it took hours. Confined to the engine bay, it could only take longer.
I guess if you generalize that answer.... if by doing something, you run a major risk of not being able to drive the car home, you dont want to be doing it at the meet.
General maintenance, suspension swaps, I could care less... but clutches, head gaskets, turbo installs, etc, anything else you would generally think of as a big job... are definite no-nos.

Re: May Install Meet - May 27
If he didn't overheat the engine, the head and block should be fine. If its a stock motor (non turbo) I could have the head off inside an hour and back together within another hour and a half.

If you want to try, be my guest?
Re: May Install Meet - May 27
If something was wrong internally, he'd throw misfire codes and know something was up. I've done headgasket changes more times than I can remember. But you guys are probably right, probably not the best time or place, just in case something were to happen. But yeah, I'm a definite for the meet, I will be getting into the town sometime next Sunday, I believe.

Damn it, now Im overheating too. I have yet to diagnose the prob but I see some coolant inside the bay so maybe a leak somewhere.

Re: May Install Meet - May 27
Check for leaks and let the car idle for a while with the cap off, keep adding distilled water to the system until its full again. Pressure test the cooling system and see if its the cap. If still no, try the T-stat. Is it shooting coolant out of the reservoir?
Re: May Install Meet - May 27
Yeah, I'll be in my car.
As for the overheating, there could be alot of reasons for it. Your fan could not be coming on, you could have a blown gasket, bad thermostat, etc. Do what boiler said and check the fan. If it isn't the fan, I'd have a leakdown test done (maybe even compression test). I will have my compression tester with me so we can at least check it. But, I wouldn't drive the car anymore than I had to.
