This just kinda dawned on me, I won't pass inspection with clear lights will I?
Can I somehow get by this another way? Orange light bulbs will cast orange on the housing... can I get away with that? Its such a pain in the *** to open the headlights up.

I've done inspections with stock bulbs before without amber lenses. I don't think most places will give u a hard time unless u go to on that's a bitch. I have orange bulbs in the front and never get any complaints from inspections or police.

Well, I have to go to the Official DC Inspection place because its a 1st time inspection. I'll just throw orange bulbs in... I should get away with it.
the new civics (04 and up) come w/ cleared out headlites w/ amber bulbs, so you'll be fine as long as they lite up amber. And DAMN, what is up w/ all these inspection threads!? Just move to florida, no emissions, no inspections, no BS, etc. As ricer it may sound, I threw in blue (yes they lite up blue not hyper white) bulbs and cops here dont give a ****.

No new civics have an amber reflector in the headlight, in fact they all have a reflector that reflects orange. The difference with our car is that there was an orange piece in front of a clear reflecotr. It is REQUIRED by law to have an amber reflector SOMEWHERE on the front of the car and does not have to be in the headlight. It also is REQUIRED to have a red reflector in the rear.
Amber bulbs and red bulbs in the rear won't cut it. You need REFLECTORS! Whether someone pays attention to not having a reflector is complete chance. Some will and some won't. Amber turn bulbs mean CRAP because you are legally allowed to have white front turn bulbs in most states. Again, whether the inspector checks or not is complete chance.
Consider yourselves educated on what is legal an not in terms of front and rear reflectors. DO NOT keep spreading misinformation about them. AGain, most inspectors probably won't notice because there are more important things for them to look at. However, with a modded car, they might be out to find even the smallest things wrong.
Justin, you can try to stick some stick on ones on your bumper to see if you will pass. If not you can borrow my headlights if you buy me some double stick tape to restick my eyelids on. just a swap job, take like 20 minutes.

You know... the other thing I thought about doing was buying some of that reflective tape, and just putting a stripe of it in front of the wheel like on a Mini.... then peeling it off once I passed.
Rob, I don't think I need to borrow your headlights to do it.... I'll come up with some creative solution.

i had a leased car and never had a problem with just orange bulbs. the dude that came to inspect my car before i gave the car back didnt even say anything about the headlights. didnt charge me for damage or anything regarding the lights either. it might be different for different states, but i doubt they will fail you for not having orange reflectors as long as there is something amber in the front that you can see at night.
when i went to get my car inspected they really didnt look like they paid mich attention to lights, actually. just made sure they worked and blinked and all that. but if youre really worried, just do what mex did and paint the white reflectors orange. its a pain, but if thats what must be done thats what must be done. i think it looks cleaner than those orange inserts anyway.

I think it really has to do with what state you're in. Here in PA, I asked a cop and an instection place about the amber piece and they both said that they thought it only needed a reflector up front and it doesn't have to be amber. They could be wrong. I tried looking through the lighting laws for PA, but I could never find a clear, straight forward answer.

im pretty sure u have to have a reflector up in ur headlights. like in the tycs i have they have a reflector, which is orange. my mom has a celica, no white in the headlights but it has sidemarkes which are orange. im pretty positive it has to have a reflector in the front, most likely on the side of the headlight or the side of the front of the car. i believe thats the law. the orange bulb has nothing to do with it. thats for like turn signals which have to be orange. i had tyc tails and the turn signal lights cant be white, they have to be orange in the back which is what the inspection place told me so i stuck my stocks on and kept em on. the front the headlight wont matter if its cleared, but u need a reflector thats orange.
