integ engine swap
Hey,
My friend just bought an integ LS with the only purpose in mind to turn it into a sleeper. He wants to do the whole engine swapping thing and turbocharging.. so his question is.. Which engine should he get?? He has 2 engines in mind:
B18C5
or
B20B
The B18C5 is the type-r engine with i think it's around 195hp, The B20B is the engine from the CR-V, which in a normal CR-V produces a lot less hp, but i heard that when tuned correctly can easily produce 200hp with around 150lbs torque (naturally aspirated). Going by the numbers the B20B would be better, but then lots of people say the B18C5 is the perfect engine for an integ.
Any help/suggestions would be nice.
Thx in advance

B20's will only produce 200hp with the Type R head is swapped on the B20 block... If I was in his situation I would either keep his stock B18 and turbo charge it or make a LS/Vtec motor either with a B16, B18c or B18c5 head...
The Type R engine is the perfect motor for an all-motor lightweight hatchback chassis setup, but not many people swap it into a DC2. Your friend could still swap in a B18C5, B20B, B18C1, or whatever he wants. But since he already has the B18B block, he could just put a B16A2 head on it (LS/VTEC) and /or turbo his existing setup for a lot less money.
There is a guy in Houston (Cheezefrog) who is pushing 450+ whp with an LS non-VTEC setup. There is a video of him floating around where he is racing a 10-sec. Viper and keeping up the entire way. Crazy.
Cary (Cheezefrog) is a really cool guy whom I happen to run into on accident everywhere (saw him at the performance shop when I worked at John Eagle, saw him at the 7th gen meet a few months ago, ran into him at the Houston Imports meet about half a year ago, even happened to pull up to him while he was doing tuning runs in his car up and down Westheimer one afternoon LOL).
If your friend is interested in his car's secret formula, you can contact Cary at cheezefrog@aol.com. I'm sure he will be happy to get you in touch with his mechanic/engine-builder friend Jason who just opened his own shop (AutoLogic) in Houston a few months ago.

If he can live with a rough idle he can build a 2.0L non vtec all motor car it would need a good head job and raise in compression but it could run 12's all motor without VTEC most people wouldnt expect it but you have to do your homework.
and he would be better off just resleeving his LS block with 84-85mm sleeves and going from there.

B20B....sleeve it...and do a VTEC conversion either...B18C5 is meant for all motor, why go through the hassle of lowering compression etc. Go with B20B or B18A/B, B18C1 even.

if its a street car i wouldnt really go over 85 and 86 for a full out race car.
They have a closed deck design sleeves Darton, AEBS and Open Deck Golden Eagle.
very good idea if you want increased displacement or if you destory a block or just want piece of mind with your modified engine.
You can sleeve a LS block to 84mm and have the same displacement as a B20 since they have the same crank, so increasing the bore to 84mm gives you 2.0L just like the B20 cept you will have stronger sleeves and your block will say B18.
You can basicly do this on any honda block you can do this with a B16 resleeve it to 85mm run a GSR crank or LS crank for the small increase in stroke and you have a 2.0L engine in 1.6 clothing.
My choice for sleeves would be Darton, RS Macines, Golden Eagle Or AEBS.
For the 2.4L H22 im building 90mm sleeves 95mm crank

if it has to be a choice between the C5 and the B20B VTEC.
I'd go with the B20B A friend of mine has a B20B in his DC2 and he's putting out about 508 WHP and 366 lbs/ft torque @ 18psi
I believed he ran a 12.9 on street tires with lower boost 14 psi, just read the thread in the link I provided above.

To be hones dont waste youe time with a B series engine because your going to end up spending a lot of money....
You want HP and Torque... get a JDM H22A Which is already VTEC and Turbo it... The Stock H22A deliver 190 Hp to the ground with a lot of room for mods. They H22A Type-S motor delviers 220Hp tp the ground which is respectful and still has room for a lot of mods.
I have seen H22As going for $1800 weher doubt you will find any B Series for under $2300 accpet mabey a B20 Long Block which isn't a complete motor.
My buddy had a 95 hatch with a h22a turbo and it was discustingly fast. i wish he got it dynoed.... Look up ther H22 though i think it would be a better route to go.
