Im in love.... with the STi that is.
A guy at work just got one a week or so ago and it has finally been broken in, so i got a ride in it tonight. All i gotta say is DAMN. From the get go, this thing has sexy power written all over it, from the sparco seats, to the nice low rumble of the engine, it begs to be driven hard. Its very smooth at low speeds and very comfortable, but once the hammer is dropped, hold on to something.
There is NO turbo lag whatsoever, just hit it and it goes like a fuggin rocket. 1st and 2nd are very short gears, but very quick to match. 3rd pulls like a mother and just skyrockets to 100. I didnt exactly see how fast we got up to, cuz the tach is in the middle of the gauge cluster and the speedo is on the right, making it hard to see from the passenger side. But im guessing he got it up to 110-115ish. The whole time i was quoting the video of the DSM vs. Lingenfelter Vette in my head, "that is iiiiimpressive." Just as I was telling him how it pulls really well, we come up on a stoplight turning yellow, and he says to me "yeah its nice, but it handles even better...." In my head im thinking "brake, Brake, BRAKE!" but he just continues and slams the car into a 90 degree turn going at least 50-55. No sliding, no wheelspin from what i could tell, just all 4 wheels planted to the ground grippin like no other.
Getting back on the highway, we pull up next to a minivan just cruising along, he drops it again.. instant power to all the wheels and the van is just a set of faint headlights in a few seconds. Again we are coming upon a yellow stoplight and again he's just staring it down with his foot on the gas. Its another right hand turn, but he decides to take it a little faster this time, and the tires decided they couldnt take it and let go. So now im about to crap my pants as this gorgeous car gets sideways, only to regain traction and snap back and rocket forward again. Coming back to work with a huge smile plastered across my face, i knew this car was for me.
I had a crush at 1st site, im in love with my 1st ride, and I think ill get my 1st restraining order if I ever get my 1st drive. The car is simply rediculous.
Im still in awe, and dreaming of the day when i can buy one.

ah yes but beleive it or not all the profesionals are saying that the ev08 is a better car, all around. there times are like .4 sec's apart but aparantly the evo8 has better road manners. either way i don't own one, yet, in two years i will though, unless i break down for an is300.

i went to the subaru dealer yesterday to try and get a peak and sit in an STi, and this is what the dealer told me. no one in NJ or NY has them yet. they will get 6 next week. thats it. theyre all sold already too. i asked if its a limitted production, he said "very limitted."
he told me that unlike the EVOs, subaru doesnt want the STi's sitting on the lots collecting dust. theyre not whats making the margins, so thats why theyre not producing a lot of them. also, they lower the EPA rating for gas milage or something like that, and subaru is trying to maintain a certain level at all its dealerships.
the dude told me its a *****-to-the-wall car, but its not something hed want as a daily driver. the car is for a very niche market, and subaru is most likely gonna produce less than what the demand is calling for. the markup will be something like 2000-5000 from the sticker price.
he told me if i wanted to sneak a peak, i should try and come by sometime next week and they might have one or two sitting on the lot waiting to get picked up.

Our subaru dealer was selling them AT the MSRP with no markup, so that's kinda nice.
And they do have short gearing. In fact, in the 1/4 mile you shift to 5th before you cross the finish.

If originality is not your concern, there are other ways of having something like that.
I'd rather fork the money for 01-02 2.5 version Subaru. I've seen them at dealerships for about 18-20k. Price difference between 2.5 and STI ..10-13k. Now...with 10-13k to invest, holla at peepz at Turbonetics or Cobb. Give them your 2.5 and that money, come back in a month or so, pick up your car, go find a STI ...and just simply kill it.
The only thing that saves WRX *** is that AWD. W/out that, they are just regual turbo cars.
2.5 version has AWD. What it lacks, is that freakin turbine. Well my friends, for 10-13k you can have that and hell of lot more. To me, that makes more sense. Then all of a sudden, STI becomes just a regular Subaru, comparing to what you have. Not to mention, with that kind of money invested in your 2.5, you'll pretty much kill anything out there. Face it, most of peepz out there are running just regular bolt ons on their cars, they just look like they are 10 sec. rides. Think about it...why fork 32g's and settle for 300 hp, when you can get hell of lot more for that kind of money. Not to mention, you'll still have WRX badge. Neat, aint it

Good points, but by doing that you void your warrenty. The Sti will beat 98% of the cars on the road and do it legally and under warrenty. 300hp and 300lb ft of torque are very satisfying for me, anything more and I know id get myself into a lot of trouble. The Sti will blow just about every car outta the water from a dig, and thats all i really care about. I dont freeway race for top end, i just like to see what somebody has at the stoplight. If i can put 1-2 cars on em by the time i cross the intersection, thats plenty fast for me.

Legally and statisfying 300hp or mind blowing triple hp digits, but..no warranty. Its really up to the person.
