Project Car

I am planning on buying an engine to drop in a little 5th gen. I am not sure if I will have enough money to get a GSR engine.

So My Question Is:

Should I get a B18 LS non-vtec engine or a B16 SI engine?

I do plan on going turbo, eventually. I want to go with the engine with the most potential.

i don't know much about the b series, but i've always heard the b18 ls motor has always been a great turbo platform

The thing is that my friend's friend has an LS integra and it is slow as ****. With I/H/E it ran a 16.1. Of course he also is a pretty lousy driver.

B18(ls) = 140 hp & 127lbs torque
B16 = 160hp & 111 lbs torque

but the b18 ls motor also has a lower compression and a larger displacement, like they say "there is no replacement for displacement"

Go with the H22! More displacment and loads more potential and you can run 13.5's with a stock motor.

Now out of the two choices you gave, the b18b way less compression, and longer gearing. Both better for turbo.

if i am not mistaken, the h22 will also hinder the turning ability of the hatch and lead it into front heavy... i don't like that idea

13.5 with a stock H22!! I hope you meant in a gutted hatch.
the H22 isnt the best motor to turbo, infact neither is the B series. None of them quite perform as well as the new K series...but i guess that isnt an option. A good turbo setup is the LS block with a GSR, or Si head. Very popular around here, and has hatches hitting 12's. that way you still get VTEC, and good torque, and good compression. Plus it saves on room, and weight. The H22 is a BIG motor, trust me, ive been working on my buddies 97 Prelude for the past couple of weeks. Its turbocharged, at 5 psi, and running just over 200whp. you dont even want to know how pissed he is that i am gonna have just I/H/E plus an ECU upgrade on my K series, and be at the same HP as him.

yeah a b18b block with a b16 or b18 vtec head is a great platform for turbo.

Can you say understeer? the H is enough to give a Prelude a heafty case of understeer none-the-less a 2000 lb Hatch.

Go with a B18B... makes turbo engine management simpler because theres no VTEC to deal with. Lower compression, more displacement (37cc more than a B18C1)... Thats where I'd say to go. Unless of course a B20 is an option....

Yes there is, it's called forced induction

But it's true that the b18b handles boost better.

no, because the larger displacement can run force induction too

Well, I talked to my friend at work and I am pretty sure I am getting his hydrolocked GSR engine to work on. I would rather do that so with mods be running 13s, it would be nice. I'll keep ya'll updated.

If i were u i would get the B18 for turboing. you'll get more torque out of it than the B16 especially in the low end, in which case u need all the torque u can get.

My Goal

This is what I am aiming for right off the bat. It will take me a while considering I dont get paid enough and I still have bills.

Just think, being able to beat stock corvettes and still being able to get 30 mpg.

I took it with my phone so the quality is poor.

Here's a pic of the engine code. I edited out the serial number. This pic was also taken with my phone so the quality is poor.
