why civic?
why civic?
I was looking through newspaper ads today and something came to my mind. I see a base mustang for 13,000 and some for 12,000. Then the thoughts of the members here complaining about how the Civics are slow came into my mind. So, I wonder why they don't just buy the base mustang instead and get all that HP and torque and possibly mod gains for less than the price of a LX?
when you say "base mustang," i assume you mean that six cylinder beast with the gorgeous six spoke rims configured to look like three stars (note the sarcasm). that car is the most hideous piece of trash, next to anything out of the general motors stable, that i have seen in a long time. the honda (if cared for properly) will provide you with many years of reliable, economical and fairly stylish transportation. the mileage is great, it runs on 87 octane horse urine and comes standard with sunroof and six speaker stereo (ex anyway). those features are options on most other comparable models. you are correct in stating that the civic is a dog when it comes to power, but there were many other aspects of the car such as resale value and implied honda quality that led me to my decision. A CIVIC IS NOT A RACECAR. don't be fooled into thinking that it is. besides, this car is just temporary transportation until next year. then it's wrx time. see ya pony cars........take care guys.
A base Mustang is also something that a Civic can beat. If I had a choice in a Mustang, I wouldn't get anything lower than a SVT Cobra. I would love to get my hands on a Roush or a Saleen! Those are some cars that I would proudly drive!
hear hear gideon. you said it my man. while i truly do despise mustangs in just about any form, the tire melting power of a v-8 is very impressive. a good friend of mine drives the base 5.0 (4.6 to be exact). while no cobra, the car moves pretty well and will easily produce tufts of tire smoke even with two 200 lb. gentlemen in the back seat. i was impressed. the roush and the saleen are both rediculous examples of power and mechanical prowess, but with that power comes $$$$$. we're now talking M3 or maybe even M5 territory.

I choose the Civic over the Mustang because I care more about how well my car will handle more than how fast it'll go. Speed is important, and I realize most RWD cars can outhandle FWD cars but right now, I'd like to see how far I can enjoy FWD. I hope my next car will be RWD, but it still won't be for straight-line speed. I like the SVT Mustang as well. Watching that car on the drag strip is nice.
