first of all, the mr2 never came in twin turbo (from the factory anyway)
the best to extract power, was the gen2 89-99(91-95 in the states)
the best years to buy in the united states, was 94-95(rare) other wise, 93 would be better than 91 or 92
the car came in 2 models in the states, a 2.2 litre n/a 5sfe producing 130 horse power. and the 2.0 litre f/i 3sgte producing 200 horse power
the new tail lights started in 94, there is a company out there call revision6 that makes aftermarket tails for the mr2 http://www.revision6.com/background/index.htm
the turbo car uses a smaller ct26 turbo that is also in the supra turbo, capable of producing about 20lb of boost without modification. but the factory setting is about 12psi for 91-93 and 16psi from 94-95(before fuel cut happens)
the chassis is the sw20
the 3sgte actually had 3 generations
90 - 93 = 1st gen
94 - 96 = 2nd gen
97 - 99 = 3rd gen
tvis was replaced with vvti in the later 3sgte, but not in the mr2
a mr2 turbo stock rights low 14 - high 13, it's a 3500lb car
with a manual boost controller(about 50 bucks) you can run 240hp
the 3sgte suppose to be bullet proof up to 400rwhp
a turbo can run you from 8k-13k while a non-turbo cna run from 3-8k depend on miles
it depends on what you are going for, raw power, i would tke the 2nd gen
if you want a speedy little rocket, take the 1st gen
or if you want to ride like you are on rails and have fun with it over the weekend, 3rd gen (mr-s)

maybe in uk, but i've never heard of a twin turbo in the state unless the guy added on themselves. toyota kept a lot from us, in japan, they also had a mr-s 2nd gen

it could also be a typo
meant to be mr2 turbo twin cam
but you can get a better answer if you ask at the mr2 forums
plus toyota never sold a 1990 model year in the united state, they sold the gen 2 from 91-95, only outside of america did they sell frim 1989 - 1999

Voiceofid said it all. Dont get an NA model... I heard it's some Camry engine. The current 3SGTE is awesome... they even have it on a station wagon in Japan called the Caldina. Does anyone else know what other car the current 3SGTE is used in?

the state side 2.2 5sfe is a pos(we always seem to get pos cars huh? the japanese and european n/a mark 2 mr2 has a 3sge), you can tune the hell out of it, it will never reach the potential of the 3sg(t)e (you'll get about 180whp out of the 5sfe, all done up)
with some 550cc supra injectors, modified 26ct, a boost controller and a nice fuel control computer and a couple other things, you can run 300+
I owned a first gen 1988 MR2 supercharged. Let me just say this, I'm getting another one. Everyone that has ever owned a 91-95 MR2 turbo and then drove mine liked the response of the supercharger so much better than any of the turbo models. It is a damn fun car to drive. By the way, there was no 1990 model year. That year was skipped to sell all of the 1989 MK1 gens and to bring in the 1991 MKII models. And they only came from the factory as a single turbo. Two websites to check out are: MR2.com and MR2sc.com
