Trading car vs. painting
Trading car vs. painting
I have a 2002 lx sedan painted titanium metallic. as you all know TM looks horrible. My question is should i have the car painted the blue color that i like or trade the car in for another civic that is painted blue. I'm not sure how much it would cost to paint the car, so if u could give an estimate of the price of a good quality paint job that would help. So would i come out cheaper painting it or trading it in? How much would a dealership give for an 02 lx civic with 6000 miles? Please help me
Still no one has answered my original question. And 2k2excoupe Im not that ingrateful, i mean i'm not going to give it back. By the way im only 14 and i want to modify my car b4 i get my license. ANywaycould someone answer my question
Your 14, your parents bought you a new car, BEFORE YOU EVEN HAVE A LICENCE, and you complain about the color? Thats ungrateful...
Just paint it. Its going to be cheaper than the resale you will loose on a new car.

WTF? You have a brand new car at 14? Oh, and back to your question... you asked a rediculous question. If you want EBP, you have to get an EX if you trade. Painting would probably be ~3G. But then again, since you didn't say, I don't know if you want friggen color shifting Masta P paint or something. Finish the question and I'll finish the answer.
In general... OEM Color - trade. Custom color - uh, paint.

a full color change on a car will cost $5000+ and its fairly hard to find a shop to do it, because they really dont make that much $$ on the job. I know my dads paint shop avoids such work.
of course this is only if its done right, as in after the paint job, you would have a hard time to find evidence that the car was ever another color. to do this you have to pretty much strip the whole car of everything, as in take out the engine, intierior, windows ect.... thats why it costs so much, because it is a pain in the a$$ if you do it cheeply then its going to look cheep, with paint you get what you pay for.
Its ushually cheeper/easier to just trade it in for the color you want. or just live with it.

Everyone is saying i'm ingrateful, but i never said i didn't no appreciate it, i just don't like the color, but i like th car. Although i wanted an ex, but i guess it is better than nothing.
so every one says stick w/ the color. SO if i do what would look good on a TM sedan?

I have one question... How would you get the money to pay for a paint job? If mommy and daddy pay for everything in yur car (which they probably do because you aren't old enough to get a job unless you cut grass or babysit or something), its obvious that you shouldnt even be asking this. Also, with time, you sort of get attached to YOUR vehicle. I'd say, if you have the $$, paint it...
it's not 'his' car. hes just going around telling everyone that. Even if his parents tell him the car is his, it will never be. He didn't work or pay for it. He didn't go to the dealership and pick it off the lot, and it's certainly not under his name.
By the time he gets his license or even a learner's permit, Honda would've put out a newer model Civic. Then he'll be bitching about why he didn't get that instead.
But yeah, get it traded for another car at the dealership. It's hard to find a shop that does good paint. Then there's a problem where the paint may wear, much sooner that it should. Nothing compares to OEM-laid paint.

I say be nice and give the car to the nearest person drivign a pinto....Your aren't old enough to drive and obviously you aren't grateful enought to accept WHAT WAS GIVEN TO YOU because you want to alter the color without even giving the car a chance to grown on your while you drive it around.
Keep the car for a coupel years, if by the time you drive the car around all the time you still don't like the color the prices on civics should have evened out enough that you wont lose much on trading it....
I'd say tint the windows, clear the headlights, lower and dark colored rims and you have a sweet looking car...
Beggars cant be choosers...
Also it is UNGRATEFUL! Buncha nit wits!

SoVeReiGN, The car is paid for in cash by my parents and i don't have a job so they pay for anything i do to the car but i don't think they will pay 5 grand for a paint job. The title is in their name but it is "my car". I don't like the color and dirtEsanchez, i probably will not have the car for another two years, i get my permit in a month and restricted in 7 months so i'll probably not have the car another 2 years. I plan on getting something else b4 11th grade. ALso beggars can be choosers
I post a simple question and it ends up with people saying im ungrateful and non appreciative
I post a simple question and it ends up with people saying im ungrateful and non appreciative you know you can put a pearl color in your clear over your paint, that would change the color a bit, thats probably the best bet, my paint job cost me 7 grand i had a red truck painted it blue with flames on it, keep in mind once u change your color u need to get a new tittle for your car and registration.

just keep the car man, what would your parents think if you traded it in for a blue one? think about that, i say just keep it, wait til you get your license and start modding it.. or just keep it stock and turn it in in 2-3 years when new civic comes out..... up to you, i'd just keep it the same color and make parents happy

"...they pay for everything..." =)
Sorry to bring this back to life after so long but I just had to point something out...what you said right there means its not your car.
I got my car at 16 soon after I got my license. I felt bad having my parents pay the bill so I got myself a job. Now at 18, I'm trying to build up credit so I can re-finance this muthafunk.
With what you said, it doesn't look like you are willing to try to find a job, unless you are super smart and need to concentrate on college. Then thats not a big deal and you should have told us that, but you didn't.
My parents would never agree to pay for anything extra for the car. Im surprized you said your parents would. But then again we probably come from every different backgrounds.
About your car...with dark contrasting colors you can make that color look good. Save up money for a few years. With that you'll be further ahead with mods than most of us were at that age.

well since your parents are paying for it...then why not ask them for their opinion on it??? asking people you don't know on a website is not going to help...just ask your parents what they want to do and give your opinion on what you think is better...they'll consider it...
