Observations on the TSX
Observations on the TSX
I had the opportunity to take a look at the TSX today. It's nice! Nicer in person than I imagined. The interior, like others have said, just has a nice high quality look and feel to it. I also noticed that intake on the TSX is of the cold air type. The intake tube runs down into the front bumper/fender area to suck in air it seems. The big filter box is still in the engine bay, so I presume it is not a cone filter down there, but just sucks air from there. There's also a nice thick strut bar/brace.

RIPOFF!! 25+K!!! You could buy a 98-99 vette for that money, or even a jetta, which German's make super high quality. The funny thing is that honda thinks they are going to compete with the 3 series using a 2.4 4 banger, HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA. *****s.

Yeah it's a major ****ing rip off.
First of all, it's a 4-banger. Second of all, it's FWD. It's not near BMW 3-series price, nor Benz C-Class nor Lexus IS300. They all have V6 power, run by rear wheels.
The *ONLY* car it really compete with is the odd ball cars... the inbetweens... like base-model Audi A4 1.8T (non-quattro), Saabs, Volvos and such. But that's a small market to compete against........ for Honda, anyways.
Like I said, V6 is a MUCH better buy, considering it's a few thousand dollars cheaper. More room, more power, more torque.... less price? Hey. I'll take it. I'll give up that little bit of extra handling edge. No problem.
People on here have been saying "young well-to-do" clients will be driving them. Yeah right. More like 18-year old kids from Hong Kong with very generous parents. Because of all the 6 TSX's I've seen so far, they were all drive by young Chinese kids.
Maybe Honda was aiming for them.... after they realized 80% of Lexus IS300 drivers are young Asian kids.

What is up with the hating?!
You guys judge a car without even driving it? I feel sorry for you guys. I drove the TSX and I would have to say it equals the BMW 3-series. Acceleration was on-par with that of a small V6 and the handling was crisp and smooth. The fit an finish of the TSX was also the same as those high end German cars.
The basics: (AutoTrader.com)
Acura TSX:
Engine: 2.0L DOHC I4
HP/Torque: 200/166
Curb Weight: 3230
Price: (6-spd, w/o nav) $26490
BMW 325i:
2.5L DOHC I6
184/175
3219
$27800
MB C230
1.8L DOHC SC I4
189/192
3185
$27990
Lexus IS300
3.0L DOHC I6
215/218
3255
$29435
With exception to the aging IS300 at $3k more, those numbers look pretty close to me. How do they not compare? If you're thinking of those higher end German sedans, you're looking at $35,000+, not quite apples to apples then. The majority of the target audience (successful middle-age professionals in these parts) can care less if it was FWD or RWD.
IMO, the build quality and technology are nearly the same when comparing high end German and high end Japanese cars.
Anyways, don't blast the TSX w/o driving one first.

uhh.. its a 2.4L I4....aka K24 engine running 10.5:1 compression. if you havent driven one yet, then dont bash. it'll make u think twice. frankly, i test drove the 6spd tsx and wow! my friend test drove the 5spd auto w/ sport shift and it still kicked pretty nicely. smooth acceleration all the way to redline. led gauges are impressive, as well as navi, dual climate controls, 6 disc in-dash w/ cassette radio. Dual exhaust looks awesome on the car as well.
