Focus observation...
Haha, some of you might get a kick outa this... I just made an observation a lil while about about our beloved Focus's
I dunno if they're everywhere across the U.S., but Neo and other S.Central PA residents can probably relate... There is this blood testing company around here called Omega Lab, or something like that.. anyways, i think it's funny... They ONLY use Ford Focus's and they always have "Infectious Waste" stickers all over them! Man, if that company only had a clue how true that really was! lata all!!
i don't see how people could like either one of those cars. there was a post a while back about a race between a nice supra and a rally escort or something. that's probably the only way i would drive the ford escort. it was just barley behind the supra, and i suspect the only reason for that is because it had the camera. it was taking turns twice as easy and twice as fast as the supra.
You're prolly talking about the ford escort cosworth. That's one made only for the european market and is highly modified. The escort in the US and that one barely have anything in common. As for a Focus and an Escort, I have driven them both
Havn't seen those. The Focus, being a Ford is going to be used quite a bit more in fleets in general than Honda.
The Focus is available as a 3 Door Hatchback (the ZX3 & the new SVT), the 5 Door Hatchback (The ZX5) that was just brought over from Europe as well as a Sedan and a Wagon.
The Escort (not counting the ZX2) has been only available through fleet sales since 2000, they are discontinuing it altogether in a year or two, likely after their existing long term fleet contracts run out. I'm not sure how long the ZX2 will live on by itself.
As to why people like the Focus, well it's a great little car, it's selling like hotcakes and is almost unchanged in North America (different bumpers, grilles, mirrors and minor cosmetic changes), it can out handle any new car on the market under $20k, has a solid, smoot ride and good "feel" as far as build, fit and finish.
Also the fact that it is economical to buy and insure doesn't hurt.

I dont wanna get flamed for this, but before I boguht my civic i test drove a ZX2. Not a bad little car. I just didnt like the feel to it, and I know a friend that has one. I like to be a little different.
edit: why dont they make a regular 2 door Focus. Just a thought to maybe replace the ZX2.

It seems like all the people with Problem Foci have either Sedans or Wagons. While the Hatches seem to be trouble free. The Sedan's & Wagons are built in Wayne, MI on an UAW assembly line while the hatches are built in Hermosillo, Mexico by hard working non union workers making like 25% of the workers in MI.
I guess it's prrof that even a solid European design doesn't mean much if the car is being built by a bunch of monkeys.
Oh, I might have been wrong about the handling claim, the SE-R probably can compete with a Focus when it comes to handling and it is just under $20k.

But who's gonna do the laughing when the time comes to sell our cars?
Ford resale value VS. Honda resale value : which would you rather have? Hmmm... tough decision there...

Unless I am in a Focus SVT

Traditionally that has been true, but the verdict is still out on both the Focus and the 7G Civic, it will be a few years before we see how the resale market settles out. So far the Focus seems to be holding up very well (for a Ford that is).
Besides, even if the Focus depreciates as bad as the massive piece of crap known as a Taurus, If we both had $17k, you buy a Civc, I buy a similarly equipped Focus, put the extra in a shoebox under the bed (never mind an intrest bearing account) we both wait 3 or 5 years and sell our cars at market value, add it to our shoebox money, and see who comes out on top. Anyways, it's all good, I like the Civic (I did almost buy one), but there usally a strong point for ANY car (well, maybe except for the Cavalier

<< SVT, which you dont have. The Si I do >>
True enough, that is the one I wanted (a 2000 Si) but I don't fit in any Civic with a sunroof (I'm very tall) so the best I could get from Honda would have been a loaded HX, which I still almost bought until I got a rental Focus for a week and fell in love with the car.
I don't have anything against Ford! I actually own a Ford Explorer. But they always use cheap parts. Specially the interior. Next thing you know everything is falling apart in a matter of 3 years, Imagine 5 years owning the car. Yeah yeah you will flame me and tell me that why do you own a Ford Explorer. Well I own it coz my uncle sell it to me for a real cheap price. What the hell I need an SUV anyway.
