GSR engine swap?
ok my 2 friends keep tellin me that theres a 7th gen civic in our area that has a GSR engine swap in it. they said that they have seen it. i say bullshit cus i heard its illegal to swap an older motor into a newer car plus i thought only a k20 motor would fit into our cars. can anyone tell me if this is a possible engine swap??

I'm sure it's possible. But it is illegla and they probably are full of it unless they have actually seen the car.
I would demand pics.

it's damn near impossible. it'd cost probably double the 10 grand the K20 swap costs. Put money on the fact that it's BS and your friend don't know what they are talking about.

why does everyone think its so hard to do a B series swap?? its not hard to make custom mounts if u have the right machines and tools and u know how to wire

It is possible, there are reports and 1 that is confirm, but I don't know where that person is...
yes unless it's a 01 gsr then it would be illegal, and emissions would still be passed... they dont have specific emissions per vehicle, just overall giudelines... (for now)
Yes, you can do anything with the knowledge, it's doesn't seem that impossible, but make for less room than a k20 would I bet... I might go for a gsr swap instead of a k20... hmm.. maybe I wont get the turbo.. or gsr with turbo... mmmm...k20's don't really enjoy turbo that much aparently...

yes it would, but if ur like me, u really dont care..... look at all the ppl that do swaps on their cars... like 96-up hatches w/ 91/92 LS engines and b16a heads... and besides, y would u worry about having an illegal engine when ppl drive around w/ illegal exhaust, lights, lowered height, etc etc....

does anyone have a link to anything like this....a b series doesn't cost anything compared to K20.....and you could find the half shafts at a junk yard or order upgraded ones. oh and one more thing....flyriceracer is that you pic.

Because it's not so "possible" as someone, including hasport makes it out to be. And I'll take my source as being credible, considering he is a tuner, owns his own dyno shop, does swaps and engine work on imports, and hondata uses HIS shop for their R&D, so I'd think he knows his ****.
It's not "easy" by any means, and will definitely cost more than the K20 swap. The transmission on the B series engines are located on the side opposite of the D17. So it's hard to make room in the engine bay. This is just one of many reasons.

Oh is that so? Its looking pretty good at Cyber Nation Motorsports , but you know, right around 360 whp isnt that great. . . .

If it's so possible and cheaper than a K20, then why don't we have a bunch of GSR B18 series 7th gens running around?

Everyone is talking about b-series in the 7th-gen and how they have seen it.
c'mon fellas lets get the pics.
we obviously know anything can be done with money.......but lets see it.

Here's the quote from the Honda Tuning mag-
This guy does motor swaps for a living and nothing else. I'm not saying it wouldn't be as expensive, but double...come on. Eevryone talks smack about this that and the other just because they haven't heard about it. Look at all the people that said you couldn't fit a Kseries in our civics. It's the same goddamn chassis. This isn't splitting atoms! Can't wait for the day it happens
Gillespie has a few other tricks up his sleeve. For example, the D series and B series are closely related, insofar as engine-mounting points are concerned. So, wouldn't it be possible to fit a B series into an EM Civic?

Sorry to revive such an old thread but my bro in law who owns a shop (body, repair shop and used car-lot) just got his hands on a '01 GSR B18 and is offering to do an engine swap for me for dirt cheap. After consulting with his mechanic for a while, he believes it can be done and could very well be as easy as a K20 swap (not that either of them are easy...just saying that it doesn't seem impossible). I'm gonna have my car shipped to his location in the next few weeks......I'll let you guys know how it goes.
According to Jeff at ImportBuilders, the B-series swap should be even easier than the K-series swap. Making your own mounts is easy - just get a bunch of metal and bolts and weld that stuff on.
Anyone who has seen the mounts on my engine have to admit that they look G-H-E-T-T-O. As long as it secures the engine/tranny tightly and doesn't rattle when you drive, that's all that matters.
The reason no one has done a B-series swap is... well because no one has done a B-series swap yet. Someone has to just be the first to do it. Until they do - it will always be a harder swap just because no one has done it.
The exact same things were said about the K-series swap. And in the past year I've seen about half a dozen people in the US with them.
