Question Port and Polish

I was just wondering, "what is Port and Polish" What exactly do they do to the engine? And can this be done to any car? Is it worth it or what...just wondering. Oh and how much does this usually run. Thanks for the info. "ONE"

port and polish is done to the intake manifold, and i've heard of people doing it to their throttle bodies too. basically, they enlarge the area and smooth the surface of the manifold so the air flows better. it is worth doing, and gets good HP gains if a good job is done. As far as doing to any car, you can't do it to the 7th gen because the intake manifold is plastic (i think), but you can do it on just about all cars

Goobers

port & polish is done to the cylinder head to open up the intake and exhaust ports to allow more air to flow into them and also usually goes with a good valve job.

Its for when you do mods like camshafts and etc... and are looking for a really big gain.

you dont port and polish your intake manifold nor do you port and polish your throttle body
you bore out your throttle body and port match it to the intake manifold.

Okay, so I was reading on some other forum for 6Gens, they were saying to get a GSR throttle body and "port match it to your intake manifold". Whaz this mean? The GSR throttle body is a bigger opening...that match I know. So what exactly is involved in "port matching it to your intake manifold"? Thanks, you the man...

basicly when you upgrade to a bigger TB your gonna have a small lip on the intake manifold that was even with the old TB but not the new one so basicly its getting rid of this and making it flush with the new TB

So, porting out the IM to get rid of the lip....you have to take it somewhere to get done or can you DIY it w/ a dremel and grinder attachment? (Hey who knows, maybe it can be done...)

you can use a dremel and use the new TB gasket as your guide. fairly easy
