A Lesson Learned (pics of Vette inside)
A Lesson Learned (pics of Vette inside)
What's up guys. I thought I'd let you guys know what my situation is. Although I don't post much and basically nodody remembers who I am, I thought someone out there might learn something from all this.
First off, I had a 2001 Honda Civic LX (black). It was my first car I ever paid for, my baby. I had 20% tint all around, Boston components powered by Eclispe, AEM CAI, short shifter, Magnaflows, and I painted the interior silver. I traded it in on what I thought was my dream car, a Corvette. Though the Corvette runs and looks great, it is not for me. I miss getting great gas mileage even after mods. I've had more comments on that car than my Corvette. I almost despise the Vette. You guys probably don't know how incredible Honda really is. I urge to take a look a corvette, open the hood an look at the engine. The way it is built, etc. The only way I know to describe is like a shotgun. If you saw the the barrel off, it is more powerful but it is not accurate. That describes the Vette; the Honda is sawed off and remains accurate. That is why it is so hard to get horsepower out of the Honda. I am selling my Corvette and getting back to imports. Modifications is more of an art, adding ones personality to the car. The corvette community is like a fraternity, everyone's your friend until you quit the fraternity. Then you find out who your real friends are. I get the feeling a lot of them are stuck up. Not so with this forum. I've even had people still be my friend despite my departure from the import world.
What I am saying is, be sure of what your dreams are, be sure of what you want. It might not be for you. It's not wrong or anything. In my case, I guess it is better to find out that a dream is wrong than to never taste it at all. I can't wait to get back to all this when I sell my Vette. I hope it all works out, for those Christians out there, pray that it does cause I want out so badly; you have no idea.
If anyone knows how the heck to get out of this situation, feel free to PM me or contact me through AIM IM at runaways0ul. That's the number 0, not the letter in s0ul...
/end rant

The LT/LS1 are one of the best built engines evAr. I dont know what generation you are talking about, but if its a C5 you either dont know much about the car it self or are deluding your self.
BTW, My brothers 2000 C5 M6 got an average of 28MPG highway on our recent road trip from San Diego to Santa Barbra.

If you re-read the post, I never said they were bad cars. I just said they aren't for me, the car is not my type. That is all. I have an LT1 engine. I get about 18ish in the city and maybe 23 on the highway. I'm bone stock too. My dad has a C5, it's a great engine. It's just for for a completely different purpose than a Honda.

hey man..i give him madd props for his realization. i almost cried reading his touching testimony. well not really, but his words aint empty. you gotta respect a guy who can walk away from a vette and get back into a little import. some might call that bein a ***** or just plain dumb. but shoot, he's got some deep-*** (not to mention intelligent) reasons for doin what he's doin. more props to him.
Have to admit. When I drive my dad's 98 Z28. The power is great, but I still prefer my 115hp LX go fig. In other words, I would rather have that much power coming out of my Civic. Strange but just my opinion.

Its Fun to out run the ocassional porche that shows up too, Some thing about people with Sports cars. Its like they think they will win just becaus they have a Vett or Porche. Oh well. It is fun to see them spin like tops when they try to come out of corners to fast.

I've had a guy yell at me for "not going fast since I had a sports car" and I was going 52 in a 45. Another guy yelled at me something about rich yuppie kids. Personally, I could hook up a real tight Civic if I spent/saved the extra money towards the Civic. The Vette is just too flashy for me. I'm a low key guy. A Civic is low key but can be made flashy in a tasteful way; a healthy medium for me.
If you center your livelihood around a car, then perhaps there are other issues that need to be dealt with. I'm 26, still youthful but I'm too damned old center my life around "stuff." Already been there, so I know where yall are coming from. Registered!!

I totally know where you're coming from, the only corvette i've ever like was the 67 stingray, all the other corvettes just don't appeal to me that much. The thing about too much power and no way to get em to the wheels is totally true. Sure it's got a powerfull engine, and whatnot, but most people can't do anything with it. I have plenty of fun in my civic, I've never gotten off of going 109 mph, but I do enjoy driving fast through the local twisty streets. In a vette, you could easily kill yourself, in the civic, you never have to worry about breaking tracking due to acceleration. ANYWAY, good luck finding out what you want. If the Vette's paid for I'd reccomend selling private party, and then go buy a stock vic, and do a swap and turbo then you'd spank vette's all day long anyway.

I hear ya, i also got a 72 stingray and the things goes through gas like there's no tommorow. but everytime i take it out than go back to my civic i get so depressed.
I don't see the point of spending $50,000 on a chevrolet, If i was going to spend tat much i would get an import like a BMW or a Boxster. I have a 02 trans am ws6 (it has the same engine as the vette) and the handling sucks and the steering is loose. In my civic you can feel the road and it has tight steering. I do like my trans am though, it has plenty of power and acceleration

i hate american muscle cars, i used to want a mustang when i was little and didnt know anything about cars. when i grew up and learned more about cars, how they work, what parts are which, etc... i started leaning to imports. why? i guess i'd rather be able to modify my car and make it fast then just have it fast out the factory, its no fun and not a challenge when power is "given" to you, you respect it more when you earned it. in a nearby ghetto by where i live, everyone has a camero, EVERYONE! and 80% of the people probably cant even change their oil.

I believe that was my point. Most people just look at the car, where as In reality you need to pay more attention to the driver. Thats why I love autocross, you get to stick it to all the ritch guys that think that they are Fast because they own a Porsche or something.

Oh ya, and there are a few Vetts that come out regurly that Kick my but, But they Run in SM2, so they are just about Fully race prepaired. The guys I out run are the guys having their mid life crisses, who just bought a Vette and dont know how to drive. Its fun to see the look on their faces when you compair time slips
Of cours I like beating the porsche people even more.Autocross, Out here we race with our steering wheels.
