advancing timing
i know this isnt for the 7thgen civics but i just got a timing gun today and theres quite a few people in our car club that can have their timing advanced can someon tell me how to use the gun i know theres a dial on the back of the gun i think it should be advanced to about 17 degrees but how do i use the gun ? when the timing is right does it flash differently or something? and where to i point the light thanks

Timing guns are different, best to read the manual that came with it first. On cars that have a distributor, all you do is rotate the distributor a few degrees to advance or retard the timing.
Hrmm how do you advance the timing on a distributor-less system? I thought the timing was computer controlled on our cars...

Welp after you get your gun settings properly set(like for a 4-cylinder engine), you typically just connect the gun to your battery and put the conductor clamp over the #1 spark plug wire. Then with a warmed up engine you point the gun at the main crank pulley and read the timing degree off of the timing plate.
