Rep Power: 382 went to auto show... more SRT4 BS
I went to the auto show and got to see all the new cars there. I'm not likin the "new" mustang look. I like the current mustang, but then again, I guess you kinda have to like the retro feel, which really isn't my style. And holy cow was there rice. On the 1st floor, there was a Civic Si (6th gen), V6 mustang, neon, Eclipse, tiburon, and other such cars with ugly bodykits and ricey wings. Bleh.
Anyways, onto the SRT4.
They had a red one roped off as if it was a viper or something. (hell, even the EVO8 wasn't roped off) I walked up to it, taking a look, and had a salesman immediately jump up and try to hump my leg. Yeah yeah, I know he's just tryin to do his job.
Him: Are you interested in the Neon SRT4?
Me: Well, not particularly... how much are they?
Him: Well, sticker is 19,995 (or something like that).
Me: But?
Him: Well, there's a mark up on them right now since they are rare and hard to get hold of. It's a very high performance machine. blah blah blah.... $28,995.
Me: (inside I'm laughing so hard you can't believe it) .... (few moments of silence)... you want to charge Almost 30 grand for a NEON?
Him: Well it's not just a neon.
Me: But... it's a neon. I mean, it really just looks like a neon with a small hood scoop and a big spoiler.
Him: Well it's got a turbo and it's very fast.
Me: I can throw a turbo on a shopping cart filled with dog sh*t, but that doesn't mean it makes it any better.
Him: Well, I think the price is justified.
Me: Right.
Okaaaaaay.

Rep Power: 0 A simple demand vs supply statement is all that needed to be said.
I tell ya, I feel sorry for the sap that pays that much for a neon. Heck, go get a mustand gt.
Anyhow, the grocery cart comment was awesome! LOL

And then mention that even though they managed to do that, they still didnt solve that nasty stench it produces...

And what kind of lexus do you own that you are comparing it to... such that the car is "shitty" inside? I happend to think it was quite nice, certainly no RSX or something, but a lot nicer than the average civic/corolla/neon/cavalier/etc. Heck, it even passed the clubsi patented "doorslam test"

Ah the irony in that. Back in '98-'99 when daimler was taking over chrysler, there was the comic someone posted on neons.org. It showed a couple standing in a showroom looking at a neon (1st gen) with a mercedes badge on the hood (one of the ones that sticks up). The caption was "I don't know, 30 grand is a lot for a neon!". *chuckles and shakes his head.
I also went to the car show this weekend and saw much of the same thing. I was with my friend walking around and those salesmen just didn't stop trying to tell everyone how "great" their cars were. Saw the honda element and the SI. I'm loving those cars with the navigation system too.

LMAO...
I happen to think that the SRT interior is prety nice. I haven't had any problems/squeaks/rattles with my 01 neon interior with 27k on it. Only difference to me between that and a 7th gen interior is that the 7th gen uses materials that are a bit nicer. I don't think the 7th gen is that much better where you can call the Neon interior sh!tty.....
- 7th gen?
no....
If the boost gauge was by chance broken, it's because of the hundreds of f*cktards molesting the interior...rather than build quality. IN detroit at the autoshow, which sees an INSANE amount of visitors, interiors in ALL makes are broken, ***** missing, buttons broken, etc...
Comparing 7th gen interior to SRT interior is a moot point....
Sounds like most people on this site are upset that the Neon is now fast...

Rep Power: 382 I'm not upset at all. My whole point is, that dodge would have been better off building a new car, rather than turbocharge an existing, not-so-attractive platform.
As I said before... who cares if the neon is fast. Fast doesn't make a car good. IMO, the neon is ugly, and the numbers don't lie. Neons aren't exactly "hot" cars for today's crowd.

I agree that a new car would be in order if chrysler really wanted it to appeal to the mass market. I think the neon in general is getting old and tired. It's not the fun little car it used to be, that's for sure. But then, the same is true for GTis and civics, and a whole bunch of other cars that have taken on weight over the years.
If chrysler DID redesign it, there'd still be comments along the lines of "dude it's still a dodge" or "it's a domestic so how many recalls are there Etc.
So really those people are missing out on a great car, neon or not.

Not to start flaming or anything, but weren't you the one who went looking for a Neon to race in your S2000 to prove a point to yourself that you could beat an SRT?? Who cares if a Neon's fast? A whole lot of people care, thats who....

Rep Power: 382 Of course I wanted to race an SRT4. I wanted to see how quick it was. Nothing wrong with that??
Unfortunately yes that's true. I wish people weren't so brand loyal. I mean i love domestics as much as imports. I prefer imports. But even I love the looks of the mustang GT, the vette, and the WS6. The WS6 is gorgeous!! And it looks like the monster that it is.

If I were a betting man, that's where I'd put my money, having been involved in the auto industry for a while..I know how slow things progress....I mean, don't you think a chrysler fan would love to see that motor in a new body? Hells yeah!
