He has an auto, you have a manual, so you have the advantage right there. Your car also has a torque advantge of 7 lb-ft due to larger displacement of 1.7L vs his 1.6L. Not sure about any weight differences, but he shouldn't be talking any "smack" with an auto tranny. As far as VTEC, I believe the '98 EX has it just like your '02.

seriously, he thinks hes a bad *** with his chrome wheels that look like complete s**t. and as far as the vtec thing goes, ive checked out his engine. its a sohc, but it doesnt say vtec or anything on the valve cover. ive also checked out anothers guys ex engine (who is like an automotive master almost being a senior in high school) and his doesnt say either.

drivers race? with a 02 MT and a 98 AT?? i doubt if its a issue at all if both are stock. My friend has a 96 civic with CAI/H/E and i only have a CAI, both are manual and i always win by 2 cars. and hes been driving for 1 year longer then me. plus my other friends who has a GTS also tried racing me with that civic, i still won. So to make it short 02 MT vs 98 AT need to ask??

isn't the our civics like a 100 punds less and has a little bit of torque more than an 98. The 98 will not say Vtech on it. However you can tell the difference by the throtle body. The dx,hx,and lx have the throttle body like ours and the ex have the throtle body side ways.

look someone with some info!

the 98 EX has VTEC. why not? sure it doesn't say it on the valve cover, but you can clearly distinguish a EX engine bay from the others via the vertical throttle body. is his CAI from the top or the side? side, vtec. top, no vtec.

doesn't matter anyway, if you can drive half way decent, you can beat him.

in either case, factor out driver.. your car is faster.

and our car is heavier.

and, you're in highschool, stop racing 16 second cars. just be a bigger, more mature man, and tell him to go away.

why didn't you ask that "automotive master" about vtec? heh.

as for the specs, any car sites such as www.autosite.com www.edmunds.com or even HONDA.com has them. (I believe they'll still have the 98 in their used car model library)

in either case you have a faster car... especially if he has a dx, lx, hx... blah blah. a manual civic is slow enough, dont need to lose a gear AND have longer gear ratios.

if he doesn't believe it who cares. he'll learn one day. or not.

Both of your bogus engines and their useless SOHC VTEC (no H champ) will crawl along and you will crawl a little faster as long as you can drive half-decent.
