Would you guys buy a used Honda/Acura?
I'm seriously contemplating an RSX, however, I just bought my car two years (only 30,000 km) ago and hate the fact that I'd be absorbing the 15% tax here in Canada and the first two years of depreciation (which are steep). To add insult to injury, I'd also be paying 15% on top for the new car. If I go for an RSX Premium it would end up based on my current market value for my car, $12,500 CAD (or $8,000 USD) to move from a 2001 Acura EL to 2003/04 Acura RSX. Not worth it my opinion.
(All figures in Canadian dollars unless otherwise)
2001 Acura 1.7EL - $19,500 approx.
2003 Acura RSX Premium - $27,000 + freight/PDI/15% tax = $32,000 approx.
Therefore, I've begun looking at 2002 used RSX. But knowing the type of car an RSX is, it would be hard to find one that wasn't driven hard at least a bit.

uhhh the rsx is almost twice the amount your el is. But if you are wanting to spend that money then why not just engine swap. I am not sure if you could but i wouldnt see why not cause you have an acura already and its 1.7 just like the ex's. i would keep it and swap engines!!

Since you don't have the donut for a new car, why not save money for like a year or more then get a new one. I wouldn't trust any used RSX except I know the person who owned it.

I wouldn't buy used, especially on a car like that because there is the chance it's been beaten silly. If you're gonna buy something that revs to 8500.... you probably wanna be the first one to run it up there. I wouldn't want to find out some moron couldn't drive it and thats why it got traded in.
You're better off knowing everything that has ever gone wrong and just buying a new RSX so you can break everything yourself and know you did it, rather than having someone hiding some potentially major problems.

I wouldn't buy used on an RSX(personally not worth the potential problems to me), but I am looking at possibly getting a 88-92 Turbo II RX-7 as a project car. If you do end up looking for a used RSX make sure you know EXACTLY why the person is selling it, and take it to a Honda mech to check it out before you make any deals.

I'm never buying another used car again. But if you can deal with the fact that it might have been at redline for most of those miles on the odometer, possibly without an oil change, then go for it.

Honda makes those cars and their engines to be driven and driven hard. They hold up just fine. If the owner has done the maintanence and taken care of the vehicle, you will probably never have a problem.
You'll never know the difference in power anyway.
I wouldn't buy it from someone 18 or under. I'd look for an owner of 25 or older. Best bet, get a certified vehicle from the acura dealer. They carry extended warranties (I think) but come at a premium.
In the end, it's an acura man! Unless it's got a bent rod or some other issue of sort, it'll still be redlining like a **** at a 100k.
Is it worth the money? NO, not imo. There's too much difference and you are getting eaten alive in depreciation and switching costs. That's the rational point of view. In the end, it just depends on how bad you want that car as there isn't anyway to justify that big of a margin.
Like I said, if the owner has done the maintanence the car should be fine.

My boyfriend bought a used GSR 2 1/2 years ago. He's had no problems with it at all. Going off his experience I would definitely buy a used Honda/Acura. Not everyone who owns one actually revs it up that high. I see A LOT of older people driving them around here... people who drive like 55 on the freeway... people who probably shift where the owners manual tells them they should and never take it over that.
