It's back...

The when-does-VTEC-kick-in thread. When DOES it kick in? (meaning the high-rpm cam profile) If you recall the last thread about this, there is STILL NO DEFINITE ANSWER. The last thread received about 10 different "theories" of when VTEC "kicks in". I would only like knowledgable people to answer, none of that n00b crap. Only reply if you know for sure, please. I'm sure S2kman would know... or maybe Guru.

I can feel it in my mom's v6 accord coupe. When it does kick in it is definitely noticable.
I wouldn't know on my civic because, like civicPesek, I have an lx but at least it's a 5 speed

I can feel the VTEC kick at about 4400rpm. If you have a stick shift, bog your launch in first gear and just have the gas slammed to the ground. When the needle swings by 4400rpm, you can feel a little push. Atleast thats what happens on my car.

When I was referring to "n00bs", I meant when people respond with n00b type answers such as "vtech gives me lotsa power around 5800 rpm,but i dont know??? maybe itz cuz i have an intake and nos?" You know... s**t like that.

It depends on how hard your depressing the accelerator and if your engine is warm or not.. Cold engine= No Vtec engagement.

Lightly accelerating vtec doesn not kick in untill later on.

Warm car WOT 44-4500Rpms...it's never 100% exact same as Idle..

on a D17A2 vtec kicks in between 4200-4500 rpm depending on oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, and several other factors

My 2000 SI Vtec kick in at about 4900 rpm my friends Type R starts kickin in about 4800 really close together yet, the Type R always stays in Vtec in every gear from 1st to 5th gear thats tha advantage...Si loses its Vtec and has to climb its RPM's again around 3rd gear, also my girlfriend has a 03 EX and well if u consider 127 VTEC appealing then go head anyways...I drive it a lot and never feel it kick it....to me its jus WEAKTEC never VTEC

Uh VTEC on a 6th gen Si kicks in at 6000rpm, not 4900....

Also the type R's main advantage is gearing and it has like 35 more horsepower. a Type R will easily take a 6th gen Si stock for stock in the 1/4 mile. If you are "really close together" your friend needs to learn to drive.

If you're gonna come in here and rip on us cuz we drive our "weaktec" 127hp civics, at least get your facts straight.
