Does The Nissan Skyline Engine = Infiniti G35 Engine?
My friend today mentioned how he's seen a Japanese Skyline on the tracks, etc.
I said.. "yea? but we see a Skyline on the road a lot now. The G35 is the Japanese skyline"
He said.. "it can't be, I bet you it's no where near powerful as a Skyline."
So I looked it up..
The Engine for the Japanese Skyline is VQ35DE
while the Infiniti G35 has a VQ35
are they the same thing or is it watered down like most cars when they come to the US?

I believe they are the same. Read this.
well G35 in japan is called the skyline sedan but the R32 R33 R34 and the new R35 thats gonna come out are different. the engine is going to be the same in the R35 with twin turbo. and its has been rumored that they might be using the nissan 4.5 liter V8 for the new skyline also thats my 0.02
There is a talk that Nissan is going to make the next GT-R [R35] a bonafide supercar, in both performance and PRICE.... competing with the likes of 911, across the globe.
That said, it's entirely possible the new GTR will be packing a V8, perhaps turbocharged.
It's also a safe bet that it will utilize FM chassis, but dont expect anything like G35Coupe or 350Z.. If they are going to charge Porsche 911 money, I reckon it will resemble those two cheaper cars.
The Appeal of GTR has always been its price, I wonder how that will play out, maybe G35 coupe will take its place and a cheap means of going fast... or maybe GTR will be just a tad bit more expensive that G35 coupe..

The "Skyline" that everybody raves about was the Skyline *GT-R*. The regular skyline for R32 through R34 weren't anything that special, just fast FR sports cars.
The GT-R has always been viewed in a completely different level than the GTS, GTS-t's, due to its SSS Atessa 4WD system that normally drives like FR, then switches to 4WD when rear starts to slip.
The new Skyline, aka G35 is not the "Skyline" that everybody's excited about. The GT-R name was separated from the Skyline name to set it apart as a supercar, to compete with Porsches and other cars like the previous post said. So the new skyline's aren't a big deal at all.
And GT-R's appeal was never its price. Compared to the Rx-7's, GTO's (3000GT here) and the Supra, the GT-R was always more expensive. The low-end costs about $45,000, the high end (M spec) about $60,000 for an R-34. The newer GT-R will probably be more expensive. Its not going to be affordable for the average young professional.

it's always been about its price, at least price/performance ratio.
A lot of people can actually afford one, if they work hard, at least in Japan.
that director guy (forgot the name, really famous in Japan) responsible for creation of R33 and R34, in an interview, said his take on the allure GTRs have always been its history and affordability, and goes on record to say he wants to keep that formula for the next iteration of GTR.

R-32 GT-R, R-33 GT-R, and R-34 GT-R are the "supercars". Skyline's in general are just a body style. Same way that there are "crap" rustangs, and then there are "fast" rustangs, RSX and then RSX-S and then Integra R, Corvette C5 then Z06, and so on......
Secondly, the new skyline has NO TURBO whatsoever. The new skyline is a sedan, and is basically a USDM Infiniti G35S. It carries a VQ35DE engine (non turbo) and is in the actual horsepower range of the high 270's. The next "skyline" will be the USDM Infiniti G35C Coupe and carry the same 280hp as the US one currently has. Technically the new R-35 GT-R wont even share the same body styling as the standard "skyline" does.

wow. I was referring to the cars that ARE ALREADY OUT. THE R35 IS NOT OUT YET. Secondly, the R35 will come with either a V8 or a Turbo V6.
To get completely technical with you, not all skylines were GT-R's which is what the R-35 will be when released. And it WILL have a v6 turbo under the hood.
You seriously need to do a lot more research before you start posting and making yourself look stupid not once but TWICE......
Can someone please post an own3d pic for this idiot? Maybe one with 2 Mickeys scaring the poor kid on the ground?
sup,
they already have twin turbo kits out for 350z Vq35de
like greddy, godspeed, topsecret, jun. from 400hp -????hp
lots of potentials makes me wet
GTR model is going to be the same dimensional spec as g35 coupe.. The same mid front engine, wheel base,
even the same chassis. Why would nissan spend more money on developement on a gtr when they already
spend million on the r35 model..they could just improve specs on r35 coupes like wider stances bigger wheels
..aka wide fender flares and the circular taillights on traditional gtr and you know Nissan is all about tradition!
BTW im also a NEW proud owner of a nissan 240sx s13 YIPPPY YIPPY
Ka24 has nice torque which my civic was lacking and better handling then my gsx lol

best overall
goodbye to my GSX and civic

Nissan will be saving tonnes of $$ by sharing the same FM chassis anyways, I dont think Nissan will do half-assed job by simply bolting on turbo and new sheetmetal as you suggested.

Its not just new sheet metal and turbo. Different drivetrain (GT-R's not really an FR like the Skyline is), suspension, brakes, LSD ... its not just bolting a turbo on and calling it a GT-R. It has never been the case. But they never stuck a big V8 in there either, so I doubt that'd happen.

Dont look for clues from previous GTRs, afterall GTR will be a 'global' model with americans on mind.

yeah, but if they are going to charge 911 turbo price for the next GTR, then they will almost be forced to drop in a V8.

ps- GT-R's have been forced induction for the longest time. You know, it might not be V6 turbo, but there's absolutely nothing to indicate that its going to be a V8 either.
oh i almost forgot..the r35 sedan did came out with a rb25det and AWD feature in the line up. only on japan

i saw in a jap mag gtr r35 not the concept on the shows but modified
w/ front spoiler,wings,carbon f/r difuser,mostly made of carbonfiber
and still the same vq35dett (isnt a vq35dett simply a vq35de
w/ turbo bolted on? can you say yes!)..but
no v8. Ppl forget that the Vq35 can pull 400hp without even
breakin a sweat also the rb26dett is a 400hp motor only detuned so why a v8.
I still believe nissan is goin to use the r35 coupe chassis specs.I bet

Heres a few official links to tech data straight from nissan, NO RB26DET engine in ANY current skyline whatsoever.
Like i said, post the links to where you found this info...
