Fuel filter already?

I have a 2k1 civic 5spd with 37,000 miles. Recently i felt my car is not operating at it's peak. So I took it to dealer, but they couldn't do anything since there was no "check engine" light. But they said it might be a clogged fuel filter. So my question, is it time for me to replace a fuel filter? i thought fuel filter generally last at least 50,000 miles. Any ideas?

Well, you may possibly have bought some crappy gas, that has clogged the fuel filter. I'm not sure if the gas tanks in our cars are plastic or metal, but sometimes, if you let the gas run down too low in a car with a metal tank, some of the smaller particles of rust clog the filter and it gets jammed up too. I don't know where you live, but if it's cold, you may also have a small case of vapor lock, where the gas in the fuel line has a little water in it, and it's clogging up the fuel line. If your dealer is willing to change the fuel filter under warranty, do it. If it doesn't help, there are some gas tank additives that can help eliminate vapor lock. Hope that helps.

my car has been acting funny too.. its like I'll be driving along and it starts to jerk realy bad, mostly at lower RPM's going maybe 25-30, but I have noticed it happend with the cruise set at 60.. If I give it some guess then the problem stops... I thought I had a fuel problem, I've tried some of that fuel system treatment but I dont think it did anything... Maybe the fuel filter is my problem, I never thought of that... isnt it located in the tank or something??? I'm pushing 40, 000+ miles so maybe its time for a checkup....
