VTEC???

I was just curious. When does the VTEC kick in?? I have an EX. It's kinda hard to tell so I figured I would ask. Sometimes is seems like it kicks in at 4500rpms then it feels like it at 5500rpms. Someone clarrify this for me.

Actually "bro" it's not always running. There is a certain RPM band that it kicks on at.

I've read varying articles and websites that it kicks in somewhere between 4500 and 4800, I'm not sure of the exact RPM, but it's in that range. Someone who has a VAFC probably knows the number exactly.
My oil pressure gauge jumps about 10 PSI once it hits about 4500, but I can't simultaneously look at the tach and the Oil pressure, so I can only guess its the VTEC oil passage opening that causes the jump in that range.

Actually VTEC IS always running.... remember, vtec stands for VARIABLE VALVE TIMING AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL. So really VTEC has two parts... a low cam profile and a high cam profile. So technically speaking it IS always running. It's just that we slang it up and refer to the activation of the high cam rocker arms and profile as "hitting VTEC" or vtec kicking in.

The reason for that is because VTEC uses oil pressure to activate the high cam rocker arms that engage the high cam profile.

I thought vtec would give the car a good boost at higher rpms. Boy was I wrong.
It kicks in about 4500rpms, but you can't feel it as much with a short ram intake.

4300 RPMs... I know I'm repeating what a few other people said, but I'd like to think of it on the lines of verification...
