Toyota ads beat Honda ads hands down

Typical Toyota TV ads might be a statement like: Over 90 percent of Camrys sold since 1986 are still on the road or over 80 % of Corollas sold since 1984 are still on the road. I guess if your Toyota is an 85 you might be starting to worry, but I think these ads are much better than Honda where you have Gen-Xers sitting in a stationary Civic doing nothing. Implication: that the Civic is best when not in motion. That is when I like mine the most, by the way. Another typical Honda ad is where you have a yuppie, washing his Accord, again stationary, with bottles of spring water. There is a new one with some chicks pulling up to a garage for directions, which is a little better, but it still doesn't take on Toyota's impressive statistics.

I know what you mean but in a way your wrong about Honda, Toyota advertises it's reliabilty directly, they give you the statistics, Honda is doing the same thing but, in a more indirect way without using numbers, The Civic ad is like, if you don't need to think about the car, you can think about other random things, What they are trying to say is that you don't have to worry about the car breaking down, just enjoy the drive. The newer Honda commercial is also indirect but not as much, car pulls up to Mechanic, mechanic asks, what seems to be the problem, they ask for directions, mechanic says, I hate Honda's, showing that the car is reliable and will rarely need fixing, no numbers to it but both portraying the same message.

Or maybe they could have a Civic parked in the desert, and an F-16 equipped with a sky cam doing a fly by shoot.

A camera shoot that is, I actually LIKE my Civic, just not the marketing.

Ummm...hondas sell hondas, not commercials. Basically, everyone already knows who honda is and what the name represents. They don't really need to advertise all that much.

Honda basically advertises that it's a honda, enough said.

i personally would like a car company that has crappy commercials or no commercials at all, that just means the car sells itself.

Honda seems to have cut back a little on its TV ads lately, given the tough economy, but last year, every five minutes there was that Accord ad with the guy and the spring water...the ads don't even make any sense, Accords aren't that great, and who would wash any car with bottled water. The ad certainly wasn't funny, if it was supposed to be Honda must have spent millions in TV time on that and on similar types of stupid Civic ads, which is a major reason why Honda owners, pay such a high price for their vehicles. Why don't they mention in some of those Civic ads that it's a rattle box, instead of making it sound like it's a luxury Honda, which is an oxymoron.

Umm..Accords aren't that great huh..It's only been the best selling car for most of the last 10 yrs. It just holds its value better than almost any car on the market. It's just one of the most reliable cars on the market. It's just one of the most sought after used cars on the market.

Hondas demand a little more price wise because of the outstanding reputation that their cars have earned. The reliability, durability, and quality of hondas has driven the price. Honda has huge brand equity as a result. This is what drives the price, not their marketing campaign.

If you want to talk trash, at least bring an argument with some substance to the table.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm always thinking about my car while driving...contrary to those Honda commercials.

"What's the grinding/ticking/whirring sound?"
"WTF, I just gassed up yesterday and I'm already down to half a tank."
"Did my trunk just fly open again?"
"Oh ****, my wiper blade tore again...I can't see a damn thing!"
"Why did my head smash into the roof while going over that bump?"
"There's that hot girl I met at the bar. I hope she doesn't see me in a Civic."

Yeah, but even Toyota knows what's up. That's why they only say "looks fast".... (even though it's really not)

I like the commercial with the chevy and the 2 guys. The driver keeps hitting the brake everytime his friend tries to sip his coffee. The brake squeaks go perfectly with whatever song is playing. My wife says she thinks of me everytime she sees it. I do it to her from time to time.
