The Tao of Aftermarket Parts
The Tao of Aftermarket Parts
After touring countless sites toting aftermarket parts, I've got a rant to make here. I don't know about everyone else, but the most popular Honda Civic model sold in my area is the LX. I've rarely ever seen an HX, or a DX. I see an EX on occassion. Big deal? I wonder why most aftermarket parts are geared towards the EX? The EX is overrated, it has very little to offer over the LX. Essentially you're paying thousands of dollars more for a sunroof and a few extra horses. Even the new Si has more aftermarket parts. The Si is AzUgly (new word, in honor of the Aztek, the originally @ssugly car from Hell :moon. I've seen 1 here, and the guy traded it in for a Hyundai. At least the Hyundai looks better. I figure if these manufacturers really want to make money, they'd make parts for the LX too. I'm thinking maybe our cars are still new, but my brother ('97 LX) has a hard time finding stuff for his too. I'm not going to get an EX just to have access to more stuff. If that was the case, I'd get an RSX. I have no regrets with my LX, I just find it amusing the way products are promoted.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

The EX has VTEC though. Most people go for that. I did. Also, everycar is like that. The best and most parts are made for the higher model cars. This is nothing new.
Besides, most stuff that's not engine related can fit (or modifed to fit) onto an LX fine. You can mod an LX, just not everything is made to snap in completely

Every little bit counts. I would rather have 7 to 10 hp more than to not have it. Also the person who was hating on the EX and the SI, obvisouly your not a HONDA person.

Let me break it down. The only differences between the EX and the LX/DX is a few safety features (ABS, air bags, etc), a couple interior features (power windows, locks, mirrors, sunroof, cruise control, and a tach). The engine features are this: the EX has VTEC = 127 HP. The LX and DX have the same engine just no VTEC = 115HP. WIth the EX you're looking at an extra 12 horses which are most definently helpfull. If you're not able to find performance parts for your car, open your eyes. It's called reading, left to right, top to bottom. You learn that in school.
I didn't care a bit for aftermarket support or horsepower on my EX. I got it for two reasons: the sunroof, and ABS. The LX may be the most popular trim overall, but in the "tuner" crowd (which are these companies' main customers), the EX and Si are the majority.

if i am reading this right, you are saying that the "tuners" are honda's main customers?? umm i believe the gas conserving, work traveling folks are the main customers.
"tuners", although there may be alot, are still a very small percentage of the drivers/buyers out on the roads today.
if i read that wrong than sorry, but if i am reading it right, than that was a dumb comment.
yes, you did read it wrong. i'm saying the aftermarket partmakers cater primarily to the tuners. nowhere in my post do i say that honda's main customers purchase the EX and Si over the LX, and neither does honda's sales records.
the extra hp on the EX just about balances out the extra weight and accecesory it has over the DX (in my opinion me(dx) and my friend(ex) have raced and its dead even untill like 60 when he gains like 1/2 carlength on me and i have a bigass sub box and tons of junk in my car.... so anyways.... errr i would have baught somthing else if i was going to spend the money for an ex(im not much on luxiories ... i have no A/C hahahahah
